The Program
Abstract Statement
City College of San Francisco (CCSF) seeks
funding from the U.S. Department of Education to develop a
Southeast Asia Business and International Education Center,
with the goal of contributing toward expanding our nation’s
capacity to conduct business in and/or with Vietnam, with
the intent of broadening the program after the first two years
to include other Southeast Asian countries.
To achieve this goal, the Center will achieve the following
objectives throughout a two-year period:
1. Develop curricula and a new certificate
program for individuals and business
interested in doing business in and/or with Vietnam;
2. Create outreach strategies
to engage the local small – and medium-sized business
community through a monthly speaker series and quarterly business
roundtable;
3. Build a six-week summer
student internship program that places CCSF business students
in American – and /or Vietnamese-owned businesses in
Vietnam;
4. Develop a faculty exchange
program in which CCSF business faculty tour American- and
Vietnamese-owned businesses in Vietnam and meet with university
faculty from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; and
5. Conduct trade
missions for local businesses to travel to Vietnam to build
relationships with Vietnamese business and government contacts
CCSF will serve as the lead organization for this grant, with
overall administrative and management responsibilities. The
San Francisco-Ho Chi Minh City Sister City Committee will
serve as the lead partner in this effort. Other partners include:

Council, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, the Southeast
