My Great Father
by Eric
My father was born in 1930 in a rich family. My grandfather was a very successful businessman, and had six wives and many children at the same time. My grandmother was the sixth wife. My grandfather died in 1939 in China during the internal war between the Communist party and Capital party. His wives except my grandmother took all of his wealth after his death. Since my grandmother neither took anything from my grandfather nor received any help from other family members, she died about three years later because of hungry and sickness.

My dad then went to Hong Kong by himself in 1953. He worked two jobs a day and went to school at nights and on weekends. He started his own business several years later after he earned enough money to buy his first mini van for public transportation. He kept saving money and investing in the mini van. He was the owner of 30 mini vans in 10 years. Then he started investing his money in the stock market, and he profited from the stock market more than what he earned in his business. However, he lost almost all his money during the stock crisis in 1970. With no other choices, he worked as a worker again in a transportation company, but he never gave up his looking for business opportunities. About five years later, the company admired his business experience and promoted him to Marketing Manager. The company business had been growing continuously after his promotion. He was a General Manager of that transportation company when he retired in 1990.

I am proud of my father with his "never give up" slogan in his mind. That made him energetic and never upset. That's why I respect my father very much and buy his idea completely.
