During most of this century, it has been known that schools are the safest places on earth. Now, schools have become battlefields
where the soldiers are the students. In the last three years there have been more than 50 gun emergencies in schools all over the
country. Guns are poisoning our society, especially the schools. Our way of life is changing dramatically. I believe that at this rate
students will bring guns to schools not to attack others students, but to protect themselves.
Guns are taking over our society and that is the cruel reality. If anyone looks at a newspaper he/she will find out that almost every week someone has been shot in a school. The most frightening attack that I have ever known about took place a couple of weeks ago in Los Angeles. A man went to a kindergarten and started shooting at the kids. The question now is where this guy gets those guns. The answer is simple: anywhere. Students (kids) are getting their guns from their homes or the street; they steal them, find them, make them and sometimes even receive them as gifts. While I am writing, I'm thinking about what we can expect of our society if the children (the future of this country) are learning about death in schools. Many kids have lost their friends because someone killed them. Weapons are everywhere: on TV, in videogames, music and movies. Thousands of kids are exposed to violence and death everyday. Many of these kids continue having a normal life. The problem is that a portion of the society doesn't know the difference between fantasy and reality. These people that carry weapons are trying to solve their problems with violence, but they don't know that violence just makes it worse. People say that the problem with guns is the TV, videogames, music and movies but the reality is that there is only one problem. This problem is a simple equation: GUN + BULLET = DEATH. The solution is taking the guns out of, not the streets or the country but out of our society. In conclusion, The United States of America (the most powerful country on Earth) has no future because its future is dying in the schools. Thousands of students' lives have been changed because of guns. Hundreds of students have died because of guns. The USA's constitution gives the right to carry a gun; now this country is suffering from its own laws. The government said that it is the media's fault that all of this is happening. They said that it is the movies' fault. They said that it's the society's fault because the society isn't doing anything to prevent this from happening again. The reality is that when guns disappear from our society the shooting in our schools will disappear too. |
