ESL 7 and above Downtown ESLV 3816 Communication Skills for Janitorial Workers (ESLV 3816 course outline) Verbal communication skills for the job, and English terminology of equipment, supplies, common tasks, and safety in janitorial work. ESL 4 and above ESLV 3819 Social Communication for ESL Students (ESLV 3819 course outline) Conversational strategies for appropriate interaction in American work and social settings; cross-cultural discussions about social customs and practice in telephone procedures. ESL 5 and above Mission, Alemany ESLV 3822 Communication Skills for Customer Service Employees (ESLV 3822 course outline) English language skills in preparation for work in customer service jobs. Content and communication skills focus on serving customers in retail, restaurant, financial, hotel and travel industries. ESL 2 and above Mission ESLV 3824 Communication Skills for Food Service/Hospitality (ESLV 3824 course outline) Verbal communication skills for the job, and English terminology of cooking utensils, supplies, common tasks, and safety in food service occupations. ESL 4 and above Downtown ESLV 3829 Computer VESL - High Intermediate (ESLV 3829 course outline) Communicative language skills, computer vocabulary and terminology used in the automated office environment. Additional focus will be on knowledge and procedures for responding to computer messages and problem-solving. ESL 6 and above Downtown VESL for Health Workers (ESLV 3830 course outline) Designed for health care workers and others interested in the health field. Focus on language skills necessary to function in a medical environment. Study of basic medical terms and pronunciation. Social and cultural skills necessary for successful verbal interaction in health care surroundings. ESL 6 and above John Adams, Chinatown ESLV 3831 Communication Skills for Construction Workers (ESLV 3831 course outline) Students develop language skills appropriate for the construction field, including verbal communications skills, occupation-specific vocabulary, reading strategies, and test taking skills.. Students are encouraged to concurrently enroll in Introduction to Construction Trades. ESL 3 and above Evans ESLV 3833 VESL for Child Development A (ESLV 3833 course outline) This course has an academic focus and is designed to provide language skill practice for students enrolled in child development classes. Students will develop strategies for reading simple materials on childcare philosophy, trends and practices and reading to children. Students also learn popular nursery rhymes, finger plays and games for pre-school-age children. ESL 2 and above Mission, Chinatown ESLV 3834 VESL for Child Development B (ESLV 3834 course outline) This course is designed to assist individuals working in the childcare field develop language skills needed to function successfully in a child care environment. The course includes development of reading strategies for job-specific reading materials; language needed for communicating with parents, children, and co-workers; SCANS and workplace culture. ESL 2 and above Mission, Chinatown ESLV 3010 Immigrant Workers' Rights (ESLV 3010 course outline) Students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills expanded and developed through contextual learning of American workers’ rights to promote the principles of citizenship and civics. Topics include discrimination, health and safety, and the history of immigrations and working tin the U.S. Emphasis on team projects, interactive assignments, and alternate assessment.
