Beginning High 4 Reading Promotion Test

This test contains 35 items. The time needed to complete this test is about 90 minutes (60 minutes of actual test time plus set-up and explanation). Students look at displays in the test booklet, and answer questions on scantron answer sheets. The general directions for this test:

General Directions:

Follow along as your teacher reads the following:
This is a reading test.You will have one hour to work. If you cannot stay until the end of the test time, tell me now and you will be excused. You will read the items in this test booklet and mark your answers on your answer sheets. DO NOT WRITE YOUR ANSWERS IN THIS TEST BOOKLET! We will now go over an example item. Put your pencils down. I will give you two minutes to read the story. Read the story now.

Now, read the question:
X1. What does pediatrician mean?
a) A lawyer who takes care of children
b) A child who wants to be a doctor
c) A doctor who takes care of children
d) A child who takes care of doctors
Is the correct answer A, B, C, or D ? The correct answer is C. This is how you mark your answer sheet:

Do not mark your answer sheet now; this is an example. Let's look at another example item:
X2. What does Dr. McCarthy want?
a) More money
b) A bigger house
c) More children
d) More free time
Is the correct answer A, B, C or D? The correct answer is D. This is how you mark your answer sheet:

First, read the item. Then answer the questions. Do not use a dictionary. If you don't know the answer, don't worry! If you have any questions about how to take the test, ask me now.

When I tell you to begin, turn the page and look at the first item. Find Number 1 on your answer sheet and get ready to begin the test. You will write the answer to Number 1 on your answer sheet. You will have one hour to work. Go through all of the items. If you finish early, you should check your answers, or sit quietly. You may not study, talk, or leave the room until everyone is finished.

Remember, do not write in the test booklet.
