Beginning Low 2 Listening Promotion Test

This test contains 40 items. The time needed to complete this test is 45-60 minutes (35 minutes of actual test time plus set-up and explanation). All directions and examples for this test are included on the tape. This test contains two major parts:

Part A: Questions 1-29. Students look at pictures, listen to sentences/conversations, and choose the correct picture. The directions students hear on the tape for this section of the test:

Look at the pictures. Listen to the sentences or conversations. Choose the correct picture.
Look at page 1. Look at the four pictures in Example 1. Find the letters A, B, C and D. Listen to the sentence. Which picture is correct? Do not write. This is an example. Put your pencils down. Listen to the sentence:

He is sleeping.
(repeat)

Which picture is correct: A, B, C or D? The correct picture is B.
Here is another example. Look at the four pictures in Example 2. Find the letters A, B, C and D. Do not write. This is an example. Listen to the conversation:

A: Where are the oranges?
B: With the fruit, over there across from the soup.
A: Thank you.
(Repeat)
Which picture is correct: A, B, C or D? The correct picture is B.

Here is another example. Look at the four pictures in Example 3. Find the letters A, B, C and D. Do not write. This is an example. Listen to the conversation:

A. I want to mail this package to Hong Kong.
B. That'll be $5.65.

Which picture is correct: A, B, C or D? The correct picture is C.

Do you have any questions? Ask your teacher now. Your teacher will stop the tape.

Turn the page. Look at page 2. Find number one. Find the letters A, B, C and D. Now, look at your answer sheet. Find number one on the answer sheet. Look for the A, B, C and D on your answer sheet. Pick up your pencils. Do not write in your test book. We will begin the test now.

Part B: Questions 30-40. The second section of the test is presented on tape only (i.e. the students do not look at pictures in the test booklet). Students hear part of a conversation and then four sentences. They choose the sentence which comes next in the conversation. The directions students hear on the tape for this section of the test:

Listen to the conversation. Then listen to the four sentences. Listen and think. Which answer is next? Put your pencils down. This is an example. Listen:

A. How are you?
B. I'm fine. How are you?

a) I'm a student
b) Fine.
c) John.
d) In San Francisco.
(Repeat)

Is the correct answer A, B, C or D? The correct answer is B. Here's another example:

A. It's a beautiful day!
a) Thank you.
b) When?
c) Yes, it's very nice.
d) He's okay.
(Repeat)

Is the correct answer A, B, C or D? The correct answer is C.

Do you have any questions? Ask your teacher now. Your teacher will stop the tape. Pick up your pencils. Find number 30 on your answer sheet. We will continue the test now .
