Evans Campus Design Studio

The goal of the SF CACT’s Design Studio is to support apparel and soft materials design entrepreneurs, manufacturers and professionals to enhance their competitive edge by upgrading workforce skills. The Design Studio supports this mission by offering technical assistance, workshops in specific technical skills, customized training and demonstrations. Services are offered to businesses in San Francisco, North Bay and East Bay communities at the Design Studio at 1400 Evans Avenue in San Francisco. Customized training may be available onsite per request. To date, the Design Studio has provided training to more than 3000 participants from 300 local apparel companies.

Design Studio short-term workshops are offered by experts in the design field at affordable rates. Past workshops include Digital Portfolio Development, Visuals & Logos, Product Development and Identifying Your Target Market. Specialized training and demonstrations are provided for Gerber Software and Technology and the Global Apparel Network (GAN).

Ongoing Photoshop and Illustrator workshops train participants the vital software skills to become successful designers in today’s digital economy. Gerber workshops offer students pattern-making skills using methodologies widely used in industry today. The Design Studio is one of the only sites in Northern California that offers Gerber skills to the apparel industry.

A state-of-the-art Design Studio features more than $1,500,000 worth of advanced apparel equipment, computer hardware and software, and products donated by Juki America, Inc., Gerber Technology, GSD-Methods Workshop, Templex, ENCAD and other contributors.

Our Design Studio staff are experienced in business practices and maintain up-to-date knowledge in cutting edge fashion trends through active participation in professional organizations and events, such as Fashion Group International and the annual MAGIC trade show.
