Course Information
Objective: To learn the fundamental concepts of managerial accounting and the applications of managerial accounting techniques in the business world. The fundamental concepts of managerial accounting include: cost determination, cost analysis and control, performance evaluation, and the preparation and use of economic information for internal management purposes.

Required Text: Managerial Accounting; 13th Edition; Garrison, Noreen, and Brewer; ISBN: 007807875X.
Required Access Code: Homework Manager access code. Homework Manager is web-based homework management system used to complete textbook assignments.
The text and the access code can be purchased at the CCSF Bookstore. The access code for Homework Manager is also easily purchased without the text on the publisher website.

| Computer Labs at CCSF: Students enrolled in Business Department courses may use the Business Department Computer Lab located in Cloud Hall 111. Lab hours and tutoring schedules are posted outside Cloud Hall 111. Student lab hours are recorded; ask the lab coordinator for assistance with completing the required forms for using the lab. Students may also use the Academic Computer Lab in the Rosenberg Library. Visit the Learning Assistance Center (R207) for information and lab hours.

Class Content and Requirements
|
| This online sections of ACCT 2, officially open on Tuesday, August 18 at 8:00 p.m. This course covers chapters 1 through 14 and appendices 12A and 14C of the required textbook. Appendix 14A, the Time Value of Money, should be reviewed if needed. Online students can expect to spend more than 10 hours per week completing coursework.

Class Orientation: An online orientation is provided in the class material and is required reading for all students. The online orientation familiarizes students with how the computer is used in the class and what is expected for successful completion of the class. Points are awarded for completion of the online orientation. There is not a face-to-face orientation.

Readings: The reading assignments are the most critical element of this course. Success in all class activities depends on completing the text and additional readings. Students are expected to refer to readings in discussion board postings.

|
Exercises and Problems: Each chapter has required exercise and problem from the text. Exercises focus on learning and reinforcing basic concepts, while the problems reinforce and test student understanding of advanced concepts. Exercise and problem assignments are worked using Homework Manager.
|
|
Discussion Forum: Forum postings are required throughout the class. Forum topics will be both instructor and student initiated. Postings will include a variety of conceptual topics and in depth discussions of class assignments.
|
| Chapter Tests: Each chapter is computerized and is comprised of ten multiple choice questions. Chapter tests are worth 15 points each.
|
|
Final Exam: The mandatory comprehensive final exam is computerized. It is worth 300 points, 30% of the final course grade. The final exam is comprised of 20 multiple choice questions worth 15 points each. The exam will be administered in Cloud Hall on the Ocean Campus. The 90 minute final exam is scheduled for Satruday, December 12, 2009.
Piicture identification is required to take the final exam. The final exam is closed-book, closed-note, closed-etc.

Student Responsibilities

| Enrollment: The instructor will contact enrolled and wait listed students on Friday, August 14, 2009 to confirm class status. Students who have not signed into class by 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 27 may be dropped from the class. If a student wishes to drop the class during the session, it is the student's responsibility to do so; a student not officially dropping this class may receive a failing grade.

Grading: The class grading scale is based on 1,000 available points. Points are awarded for completion of exercises and problems, participation in forums, chapter exams, and final exam. Points are not awarded for all of the activities that are required for this class. However, success in the class depends on completion of all of the assigned activities. No extra credit will be given.

| Late Assignments: This is not a self-paced class. Students are expected to complete assignments in a timely manner. Late assignments will not be accepted. Assignments are due by the date and time shown on the due date list provided in class.
|
| Online Etiquette: Please treat others in this course with the same level of respect that you would like to be treated. I suggest you read this book excerpt on internet etiquette or Netiquette. I will expect all students to use proper netiquette in this class.

Academic Conduct: Students are encouraged to work together to solve problems. However, each student must complete his own work. CCSF requires that the submission of all class assignments represent the original work of the student. Potential problems can be avoided if the rules set forth in the CCSF Student Code of Conduct are followed.
