and liabilities, together with a study of analytical procedures. The course meets the educational
requirements to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam as determined by the
California State Board of Accounting.

Class Orientation:

The orientation is completely online this term. You will need to make sure that you carefully read all the information that has been posted under the Orientation section on the Homepage once you are logged into the online class. You will not be able to do this until the first day of class.

Please check my website at www.ccsf.edu/pcarball for additional information on purchasing the access codes and logging into class. There are two other documents here that explain the process.

Course Expectations:
Everyone comes to the class with differnet expectations. This online course does duplicate the content of the traditional course, but not the delivery. An online course relies on a self-directed student completing the assignments, readings, quizzes, threaded discussions, etc. on their own time schedule while meeting the posted deadlines. Students who perform at their potential, welcome change and are willing to assume responsibility, make decisions, and express opinions, are successful in this online course.

It is very easy to fall behind in an online class. There are no scheduled on-campus or online class periods. The entire course is asynchronous, except for the comprehensive final exam, and can be accessed at your convenience. Your only requirement is to complete assignments and exams as scheduled and complete the on-campus final exam on the scheduled date. You must be a self-directed student who can plan your schedule to accommodate the deadlines outlined in the syllabus.

You are expected to visit the course several times a week, ideally, once a day. Once there, you will find announcements, lecture material, assignments, quizzes and exams. Each week begins on Monday and ends Sunday at 11:55 pm Eastern Time. All discussion board topics are due each Sunday by 8 pm Pacific Time. All other assignments, and quizzes are due Sunday at 11:55 pm Eastern Time. Due dates for exams will be announced.

If you do not participate weekly, in both the main class in the Insight System and the homework manager, Wiley Plus you will be dropped from the class. There will be no exceptions here.

Minimum Computer Requirements: The computer used for coursework must meet the minimum requirements for WebCT .

Online Participation
You are required to participate in the homework discussion board topic each week. You should post to the homework discussion board topic on the topic that I ask you to discuss in your homework assignments. You can use the class Homework Discussion Board Topic to talk to your classmates and help each other with the assignments. Participation in the online discussion group is based only on your activity in the homework discussion group, not on your emails to the instructor. You should email me only if you have a specific question that only I can answer for you. Each assignment for the homework discussion board will have a specific deadline you must meet. This class is not self-paced; make sure you keep track of the assignment due dates. As an incentive for you to visit the homework discussion board, I will be putting up hints for some of the problems there.
Course Requirements and Grading

You will be evaluated based upon the results of homework, weekly quizzes, a midterm, and a comprehensive final exam, and the online discussion groups. The following assignments, quizzes, and exams are required for this course:

Reading: Reading the assigned chapters are a critical element of the course. The readings will provide the information that you need to apply to the homework assignments, exams, quizzes and the discussion postings. You should begin each week by reading the assigned chapters, the online powerpoint presentations (optional), or reviewing the study guide (optional) and any other handouts that may be assigned. Do not feel that you must buy the study guide, it is not necessary and I will not be assigning anything from it.

Quizzes: The quizzes will be administered weekly online and will correspond to each of the chapters we cover in the text. The quizzes are timed and you will only be allowed one attempt for each quiz. All weekly quizzes are due Sunday  at 11:55 pm Eastern Time. There will be No Makeups.

Exams: The midterm exam and the comprehensive final will consist of multiple choice questions. The midterm will be given online. both exams will be timed and you will only be allowed one attempt for each. The midterm exam due date will be announced. The comprehensive final will be given on campus (will be announced). All students must take the final on the scheduled date and time on campus. The final will not be given online. There will be no make-up exams. No exceptions.

Homework: Homework assignments give you the chance to demonstrate what you have learned. These assignments are a critical element of the course. Each week you will find a homework assignment that needs to be completed and submitted to me. The assignment must be submitted to me by the "end of the week" which is by Sunday night at 11:55 pm Eastern Time. You will submit the homework assignments using the homework manager "Wiley Plus". You will have unlimited attempts to submit your homework activities up until the deadline of Sunday night at 11:55 pm Eastern Time. Also, after the submission of the 2nd attempt, you will be able to view the solution. It is essential that you keep up with the weekly homework. If you have not completed the homework for the week you will not be prepared to go to the chapter.

Discussion Boards: Each week you will be expected to post to the Homework Discussion Board Topic. You will be asked to post to these topics, as well as respond to other student posts. You are required to post to the Homework Discussion Board Topic with questions and answers regarding homework assignments. You are required to post at least two responses to your classmate's questions on homework, or to a question that has come up regarding Exams/Quizzes, Insight System/Technical Issues Topic, or the Syllabus. All discussion board postings are due the current week on Sunday night by 8 pm Pacific Time.

Remember, your classmates may have different experiences than I, so you may get more specific answers from them than you could from me. Remember part of your grade is based on posting not only questions to the discussion boards, but answers to other student's questions.
