The Mandatory Orientation
Monday, January 14
6-8 pm at the Language Center (R205-E)
and 8:00-9:20 pm at a classroom TBA
Bring photo ID and CCSF Student ID Number
I have several emails from students who registered the class. They say, “I cannot come to the mandatory meeting.” I am sorry that you should wait till next time if you cannot come to the mandatory meeting. Please understand. I have more than 40 students in this class. I wish I can take all your requests. But, it is very hard for me to give a phone orientation. It is very hard for me to find your partner to practice Japanese language. It is hard for me to send all materials by mail.
This online Japanese class is called a hybrid class. This means you have to come to CCSF to take the quizzes, midterm, and final examination and to practice conversation with me and your classmates. Some of you have taken online courses at CCSF and you were not required to attend face-to-face classes at all. While this class requires less on-site attendance than the regular Japanese 1A class, you are still required to attend the face-to-face classes on campus.
If you miss one required face-to-face class, I may keep you in my class. But if you miss twice, I will drop you. Please check your calendar whether you can attend or not.
The following dates are the required days to come.

Final |
First, I require you to attend the mandatory orientation.
During the first of half of this meeting, the first half I will finish logistics such as add and drop, the course information, to find your language partners, WebCT and other. Since attendance is required at the mandatory meeting, students who won’t show up will be dropped. (If you have some emergency, please email me and discuss with me.) Since there are quite a lot of students who want to add, I have asked the school to turn on the waiting list. Some you are already in my waiting list. Those who are already in my list have priority to add the class. Depending on the number of students who won’t show up and are in the waiting list, you will be added. At this point I don’t know how many people are waiting. If you want to add the class, please come to the mandatory orientation. But I cannot guarantee to add you. After the logistics, I will introduce the first lesson.
At this meeting, I will give you a lot of handouts to practice conversation with you and with me through Skype (internet phone). I will explain how to use them. More importantly, you will meet your classmates and find partners to practice conversation through Skype or in person. If you cannot attend the mandatory orientation, please wait to take the class next semester.
Second, the midterm and final examinations are fixed dates. If you don’t take them, you cannot pass the class.
Finally, you must take the lesson quizzes at CCSF. When you come to take a quiz, I will explain the difficult grammar points and we will intensively practice them both before and after the quiz.
Please drop the class or do not register for the class if you cannot commit to attending the class on campus on the required days.
Those people who decide to take the class and registered for the class should click here and read the course information.
See on Monday, January 14.
