Books:            LEARN JAPANESE: New College Text Vol. III & IV, John Young and Kimiko Nakajima-Okano ( From L6 of Vol. III to the end of Vol. IV will be covered.) These books are both available at the CCSF bookstore.
Tapes:  Available for listening at the CCSF language center. No duplicating service is offered.

The following call number will be needed to cover the lessons in the books.

Students’ Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Active participation in class and regular attendance  (Students are allowed to miss ten hours of instruction per semester. If you exceed this, you may be dropped or you may receive an “F” or “NC” for the semester.  Please note that it is the student’s responsibility to drop the class if he/she cannot attend the class regularly.)
  • 2 hours per week of language laboratory attendance (1 hour of computer learning during the semester is required.  An attendance time card will be submitted regularly.)
  • “Pattern Sentence” section with “Notes” and “Vocabulary Lists” section will have been studied before the first class hour of each lesson.
  • Written and reading assignments

Notes: 1) Supplemental material will be used to learn Kanji characters.

           2) Supplemental reading materials will be given.

           3) No make-up quizzes will be given.

  • Cell phones or pagers must be turned off in class.
  • Plagiarism is not accepted. If you do so, you will receive “0” for the assignment, quiz, or exam, and will also receive a lower grade.

November 22-25        Thanksgiving Vacation

December 12, Friday  Final Exam (8 a.m. – 12 p.m.)

Grading:   final grades will be based on the following.  Excessive absences, however, may not apply to this grading policy.
1. Assignments and classroom/LL participation        10 %
2. Quizzes                                                                 20 %
3. Midterm exam                                                        20 %
4. Final exam                                                             50 %

Note:    
1) Students who fail to take either the midterm or the final exam will receive an “F” or “NC”
2) No earlier exams will be given under any circumstances.

Credit grade option:

You may request that your final grade be CREDIT instead of letter grades. In order to receive a CR grade, you must be at least C level. Your decision to take the course on a CREDIT/NO CREDIT option must be made by the designated date by filing out the form and presenting it to the Office of Admissions and Records.
