BASIC STEPS TO SUCCESSFUL ARCHERY

STANCE

Feet Shoulder width apart

45 degree stance

Butt in

Chest down

SET

Nock Arrow on string

Hook with 3 fingers

Set fingers on string

Set grip in bow, pressure on the meat of the palm

SETUP

Elbow level with arrow

Raise bow arm and drawing arm together (hinge up)

Set eye focus

View target between hands (like looking thru a window)

DRAW

Draw to about 1-1 1/2 inches below anchor under jaw

Drawing hand should stay hooked and unchanged

Angular motion of elbow/back of arm

ANCHOR

Solid contact with face under the chin

Maintain hook in string hand

NO AIMING YET

TRANSFER

Load transfers or moves from forearm to back and back of upper arm

"Lan2" (area above elbow back of arm) pressed towards person behind them in shooting line

HOLD

Total commitment to the shot

Short time to aim

EXPAND

Chest expands a little

RELEASE

Relax fingers, let the string pull thru your hand

Bow hand release (with bow sling only), bow arm stays strong

Continue to expand, tension and direction

FOLLOW THROUGH

Bow arm stays strong (maintain alignment)

Drawing arm continues to move towards back; Expansion continues

Release hand returns to being hooked

RECOVERY AND REPEAT

Reflect on shot, evaluate performance

Relax

Begin next shot
