LETTER GRADE OPTION
Each student is allowed 1 absence for 1-2 hour class per week or 2 absences for 2 -1 hour classes per week for the entire semester without penalty. More than the allowed absence(s) will result in a full drop in their Mid-Term or Final Grade; i.e. for a class that meets once a week for 2 hours, if you have an “A” at the end of the semester and you have 2 absences, your final grade will be a “B”. 3 absences will drop your grade to a “C”, etc.
CREDIT-NO CREDIT GRADING OPTION – does not affect your GPA
A Credit-No Credit Grading Option is highly recommended if you are not concerned with a letter grade, i.e. you are a returning student or are not transferring to a college or university. You will receive a CREDIT grade if you have no more than 4 absences. More than 4 absences will result in a NO CREDIT grade. YOU MUST REQUEST THE CREDIT/NO CREDIT OPTION BY COMPLETING AND SUBMITTING THE PROPER FORM TO THE ADMISSIONS OFFICE OR REQUESTING THIS OPTION ON-LINE.
Doing nothing will automatically give you a letter grade option.
MAKING UP ABSENCES
If you are absent from class more than the number allowed and would like to make up the absence to improve your grade, you must do the following –
- check the class schedule and find a PE class of the same subject that you are making-up to attend.
- Go to the class and ask the Instructor if you can be allowed to make up your missed class in their class. If so, participate in the class and have the instructor sign a Make up Slip* (or plain piece of paper) noting that you have attend the make-up class.
- Give the signed make up slip to me at the next class meeting
- REMEMBER: don’t wait until the last minute. Do your make ups early or ahead of time if you anticipate you will be absent.
- The last day of class will be the last day that I will accept Make-up slips.
- NO MORE THAN 6 absences can be made-up for 2-hour classes
- NO MORE THAN 10 absences can be made-up for 1-hour classes/twice a week.
* Make up slips will be available from Diane Nagura
