WHY SHOULD YOU BE CONCERNED WITH SAFETY?
You must always be aware that you hold a lethal weapon in your hands. Accidents happen because people are not thinking - Remember, you must ALWAYS shoot with safety in mind for yourself and others.
BEFORE SHOOTING
Inspect your equipment; the bow for frayed strings, broken or cracked limbs.
Check you arrows for cracks, damaged feathers or broken nocks.
Shooting attire should not include baggy shirts, scarves, long necklaces, earrings, pins and long hair should be tied back.
Always wear an ARM GUARD and FINGER TAB or GLOVE
WHILE SHOOTING
Nock your first arrow only after your group is ready to begin shooting
Point nocked arrows towards the ground when not shooting
If an arrow falls off the ARROW REST, restart the shot, rather then attempting to replace the arrow at full draw.
Do not hold the arrow on the ARROW REST with your bow hand finger.(danger)
If any of your equipment falls in front of you, while shooting, ‘rake it towards you with your bow or “forget it” until your group has finished shooting their end.
Do not step in front of the shooting line while other archers are shooting.
NEVER shoot an arrow aimlessly into the air.
Watch for anyone who might walk into your shooting area and stop shooting immediately.
DO NOT over draw your shot.
DO NOT dry fire your bow.
AFTER SHOOTING
Put down your bow and step back away from the shooting line.
Cross the shooting line to retrieve your arrows only after your entire group has finished shooting their ends.
Retrieve arrows that have hit the ground as your walk up to them.
WALK, do not run to the target. Avoid tripping on arrows.
Be sure there is no one behind you as you pull arrows from the target.
Place one hand flat on the target face to prevent it from ripping, then grasp the arrow close to the target with the other hand. Twist the arrow back and forth to remove it. Pull the arrow out slowly.
Use caution when picking something up below the target look above your head to avoid head and eye injuries from protruding arrows.
Carry arrows carefully keeping the arrow tips in one hand or in a quiver
When retrieving arrows behind the target, have one archer remain in front of the target so that others will not shoot at your target or place bow in front of target if you are alone.
