Instructions for using the Quiz Builder

You can use the Quiz Builder to create quizzes or assignments. The quizzes can be accessed by students with any Web browser, and the results are evaluated and mailed back to you.

How to Create A Quiz

To Begin:

Set quiz parameters:

  1. Enter the number of questions the quiz will have.

  2. Enter the maximum number of options for any one question.

    For example, if Question 1 on your Quiz has 3 options and Question 2 has 5 options, enter 5 as the maximum number of options. To be safe, you can choose more questions and options than you think you will need. Spaces for questions or options which you leave blank will not show up on the quiz you create.

  3. Type in the title of the quiz.

    This title will appear centered in large bold font at the top of your quiz.

  4. Click once on SUBMIT.

Fill in the information on the form:

  1. Choose your background, text and links colors by clicking on the pop-up menus.

    You can preview your form at any time by clicking on the Preview button at the bottom of the Quiz Builder page.

  2. Type in your image URL. This is optional. The image associated with the url you type in will appear centered at the top of the quiz, beneath the title of the quiz.

  3. Type your question in the box. The question can be multiple choice, check box or text.

  4. Select answer type

  5. Enter the Correct Answer

    The answer should be the number of the correct option, not the actual answer. For example, if the correct answer is Option Number 1, enter 1 as the correct answer. If there are more than one correct answer (checkbox), the option numbers should be separated by commas.

  6. If you chose Radio, type in the number of the correct option, then the Options for Radio Answer. Like this:

    If you chose Checkbox, type in number(s) of the correct option(s), each separated by a comma.

  7. If using the Text option, type in the correct answer exactly as students will have to enter it.

    Note: Be sure to let students know they must type in the answer exactly as you have entered it. Even a misspelling will be counted as a wrong answer.

  8. Enter comments/explanation for answers. This step is optional. These comments will appear under each question in the results generated for students, assuming you choose to make the quiz results known.

  10. Threshold Levels

    This is not required, but does give you the option of requiring a minimum number of correct answers before going on to more advanced or review information. For example, if there are 8 questions, and you want to set the threshold level at 50%, you would type in 4 as the Threshold Level.

  11. Email address

    Type in the email address where results will be reported. If you would like to include more than one address, you should separate the addresses with a comma.

    Note: This option is required.

  12. Results Display Option

    Choose "Yes" if you want the quiz results to be returned to your students right away. If "No", the results will only be mailed to the addresses specified above.

  13. Submit

    Click the Submit button to generate the html code for your quiz.

    That's it! Your quiz is complete. The next step is to post it to your Website.

    Putting your quiz on the Web

    1. Click mouse once on the screen that contains your quiz information.

    2. On the menu bar, click File, then Save As.

    3. Type in a new filename in the space provided (action.cgi is currently displayed in the filename box). You must name the file with a .htm (Windows 3.xx) or .html extension. For example: Type in myquiz.htm

    4. Choose the directory to save the file.

    5. Click Save.

    6. FTP the file to your webserver.(For example, the fog server) as outlined in "Putting your Page on the Web"

    7. Publish your URL to your Students.
