LEA SCHOLARSHIPS

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The Latino Educational Association awards the following scholarships:

LEA TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP
LEA LA ROSA AWARD
LEA ADELANTE AWARD
MISSION CAMPUS AB 540 SCHOLARSHIP

TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP:

LEA offers a minimum of three $500 - $1000 educational scholarships to Credit Latina/Latino students who have completed a minimum of 60 transferable units at City College of San Francisco and have been accepted to a 4-year college or university.  

Eligibility

The LEA Transfer scholarships will be awarded on the basis of:

  1. academic excellence ( a minimum of 3.00 G.P.A)
  2. involvement and service in the Latina/o community
  3. financial need
  4. student activism while at CCSF with a student organization/club (or other extra curricular activity)
  5. proof of acceptance to a 4-year college or university.

Instruction for Application

Please complete the following items:

  1. Fill out the LEA scholarship application                                      Download the Transfer Scholarship application form here
  2. Provide an unofficial CCSF transcript verifying your G.P.A.
  3. Provide 2 letters of reference/recommendation describing your character and your academic potential and goals. 
  4. Complete an autobiographical essay.  In your essay you should include a) your goals and aspirations (what is important to you and why); b) your academic interests; c) your educational and community activities; d) your personal achievements.

Deadline

Submit all the above materials by the last Friday of the month of April to any of the following offices:

* Finalists may be called in for an interview with the LEA Scholarship Committee

LA ROSA AWARD:
LEA offers a minimum of two $250.00-$500.00 educational scholarship awards to Continuing Credit Latina/Latino students who have completed 24 of CCSF credit with a minimum of 6 units in Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS).

Eligibility
The LEA La Rosa Award will be awarded on the basis of:

  1. academic excellence (minimum of 2.5 G.P.A)
  2. demonstrated advocacy on behalf of Latina women’s rights
  3. active member of a student club or organization serving the Latina/o population
  4. first generation in college
  5. bilingual/bicultural

Instructions for Application
Please complete the following items:

  2. Provide an unofficial CCSF transcript verifying your G.P.A.
  3. Provide 2 letters of reference/recommendation describing your character, interests, and academic pursuits
  4. Complete an autobiographical essay.  The essay should include information about a) your student advocacy on behalf of Latina women; b) your work with a student club or community organization.

ADELANTE AWARD:
LEA offers a minimum of 4 $250.00 educational scholarships to CCSF/Non-Credit Latina/Latino students who have completed an ESL level of 6, 7 or 8 and are transitioning to CCSF/Credit.

Eligibility

  1. attending a CCSF non-credit campus
  2. enrolled or completing ESL Level 6, 7, or 8
  3. demonstrated financial need
  4. personal commitment to higher education

Instructions for Application

  1. Fill out the LEA scholarship application.

  2. Provide an official transcript verifying attending or completing ESL Level 6, 7 or 8 
  3. Provide 2 letters of reference or recommendations from your counselor and/or instructor.
  4. Write an autobiographical essay.  The essay should include a) your commitment to higher education; b) your personal aspirations and goals; c) your financial need.

Deadline

MISSION CAMPUS AB 540 SCHOLARSHIP:
LEA offers a $300.00 educational scholarship to CCSF Latina/Latino immigrant students who have completed at least one class at the Mission Campus.

Eligibility

  1. successfully completed at least 1 class (credit or non-credit) at Mission Campus.
  2. completed at least 6 units of credit classes at CCSF in general.
  3. enrolled at CCSF for Spring 2011 (verified upon receipt of scholarship.)
  4. cumulative GPA of at least 2.0
  5. current AB 540 status at City College of San Francisco

Instructions for Application

  1. Fill out the LEA scholarship application.

  2. Attach transcripts from all U.S. colleges attended (unofficial OK)
  3. Essay: On another sheet of paper, write a one-page typed essay answering the following question:
    Essay question: Describe your educational goals, career plans and contributions to the Latino community.

Deadline
