Friends of the CCSF Library


What has FOL done for us lately?

The Friends of the Library are proud to:

  • provide substantial help to purchase library materials in this poor fiscal climate,
  • sponsor receptions for Library events which bring together students, faculty, and CCSF staff in an informal setting for cultural and intellectual experiences,
  • sponsor the CCSF Library Research Award , and to
  • support the award-winning Library Exhibition Program.

2009- 2010

  • The FOL purchased reference books, audio books, DVDs, and various supplies (printers, printer cartridges, etc.) for our CCSF Library.

2008- 2009

  • Thanks to the James Cagnacci Memorial Fund, the FOL purchased close to one hundred titles of world literature in English translation. From Honoré de Balzac to Emile Zola, Eileen Chang to Nguyen Huy Thiep and Xhwang Sok-Yong, from Jorge Luis Borges to Jose Donoso and Manuel Puig. Get ready for some great reading. Fall 2005

  • The Friends of the Library support the new CCSF Library Research Award . One to two prizes of $200 each will be awarded to CCSF students to recognize"excellence in student research and information competency skills and the process of inquiry in using the library, its resources, and collections." (Donations may be made to FOL asking that all funds be applied to the CCSF Library Research Award. )

Spring 2005

  • Supported the following presentations in the Library:
    • East Meets West 2005 - May, 2005, Asian American Authors Series Panel Discussion and Reading
    • Firoozeh Dumas, Author of Funny in Farsi, A Memoir of Growing up Iranian in America
    Purchased: Encyclopedia LatinaEncyclopedia of Latino Popular CultureEncyclopedia of DisabilityGreenwood Encyclopedia of Rock History
  • various other books, journals, library and learning resource material

Fall 2004

  • "Let’s Book”, (Children’s Book Week) Tuesday, November 16, 2004, 12:30–2:30PM, Ocean Campus, Rosenberg Library, room 304. Featuring:
    • Belle Yang, Author of Hannah is My Name
    • Yuyi Morales, Author of Just a Minute: A Trickster Tale
    Purchase four current sets of the World Book Encyclopedia for reference at the Rosenberg and 3 other campus libraries.Purchase The Oxford encyclopedia of Food and Drink and The Encyclopedia of Kitchen History for the Statler Library.
  • Purchase various books, journals, and other library and learning resource materials.
