Grades
When
grades are given for any course of instruction
taught in a community college district, the grade
given to each student shall be the grade determined
by the instructor of the course and the determination
of the student's grade by the instructor, in the
absence of mistake, fraud, bad faith, or incompetency,
shall be final.
Student
Grade Review
The
Student Grade and File Review Board, composed of
students, faculty and administrators, reviews individual
student grievances respecting course grades and
file contents. After reviewing a particular grievance,
the Board recommends appropriate action to the
Chancellor, the instructor and the student. The
Board acts as arbitrating body and does not have
the power to change grades directly. STudents should
be aware that there is also a Grading Policy Committee
that addresses general grading practices and policies
at the College. Late
Withdrawal
Late
Withdrawals are those requested by students after
the last day for official student or instructor
initiated Withdrawal and up until a period of *two
years after a final grade has been given. For information
on the withdrawal appeal process, see the current
City College Catalog under the section of "Academic
Policies and Procedures." A late Withdrawal
will be granted only for verifiable extenuating
circumstances, which have prevented the student
from academic participation.
Repetition
of Credit Courses
Course
repetition i regulated by Sections 55762 and 55763
of Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations.
It is student-initiated and is not the same as
course repeatability. Courses offered for credit
may be repeated only when one (or more) of the
following circumstances applies:
- the
student has previously received a substandard
grade of "D", "F" or "NC";
- the
student has not previously earned a substandard
grade and the district finds the student's grade
is, at least in part, the result of extenuating
circumstances; for example, accident or illness,
military service, jury duty and so forth. However,
the new grade cannot be counted for calculating
GPA;
- the
district has determined that a student should
repeat a course as a result of a significant
lapse of time since the student previously took
the course. However, the new grade cannot be
counted for calculating GPA. The notation of
Post Grade Only on the academic transcript will
be used instead;
- the
district finds that permission to repeat a course
is a valid disability accommodation, as verified
by the City College of San Francisco Disabled
Student Programs and Services Department. Authorization
to repeat under these conditions only apply to
special classes which utilized curriculum and
materials specifically designed to address the
educational limitations of the students with
disabilities.
- the
district finds that course repetition is necessary
for a student to meet a legally mandated training
requirement as a condition of continued paid
or volunteer employment.
