ENROLLMENT STATUS IN CREDIT COURSES AND PROGRAMS
The majority of our Credit students enrolled in the Fall 1996 term were Continuing students (55%). Over 15% of the Credit students were new to the college (first time students).

SOURCES OF FIRST TIME STUDENTS
Over 36% of new students to City College come from San Francisco Unified high schools, with another 10% coming from San Francisco private high schools or high schools in San Mateo county.

The overall successful course completion rate for Credit courses was 66.8% Fall 1996 and 67.9% for Fall 1995. Students successfully complete a course if they attain a letter grade of A,B,C or Cr at the end of the term. Successful course completion was over 78% in both the Schools of Applied Sciences and Technology, and Health and Physical Education.

City College awarded 1,046 associate degrees in the 1996/97 academic year. City College of San Francisco awarded more associate degrees to “minority” students in 1992/93 than any other community college in California according to Community College Week (Community College Week refers to African American, Asian, Hispanic/Latino, and Native American students combined as “minority” students). TRANSFERS TO THE CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY AND THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA SYSTEMS
During the Fall 1996 term, City College of San Francisco transferred
744 students to the California State University system, and 190 students
to the University of California system.
Many of our students also transfer to other colleges and universities
both in California and out-of-state. Currently, we do have an exact
number of these students or the names of the colleges where they are transferring.
City College of San Francisco has a total transfer rate of
30.4% according to the 1996 Transfer Assembly study. This means
that 30.4% of the students who were first time freshmen in the Fall of
1990 transferred to a UC or CSU campus, and had taken at least one class
by the Fall of 1994. City College’s transfer rate is almost 10% higher
than the current overall California community college transfer rate of
20.6%, and also higher than the current national community college transfer
rate of 21.8%.
Transfers to the California State University system
Over 45% of the City College students transferring to the California State University (CSU) system during the Fall 1996 term were Asian/Pacific Islander. The numbers of African American, Hispanic / Latino and Filipino students transferring to the CSU system have risen over the past four academic years.
