SUCCESSFUL COURSE COMPLETION
The overall successful course completion rate for Credit courses was 67.3% Fall 1995, and 67.5% for Fall 1994. This compares favorably to the statewide average of 66.6% for Fall 1994 (Fall 1995 statewide numbers are not yet available). Students successfully complete a course if they attain a letter grade of A,B,C or Cr at the end of the term. Successful course completion was over 78% in both the Schools of Applied Sciences and Technology, and Health and Physical Education.

City College awarded 1,070 associate degrees in the 1995/96 academic year. City College of San Francisco awarded more associate degrees to “minority” students in 1992/93 than any other community college in California according to Community College Week (Community College Week refers to African American, Asian, Hispanic/Latino, and Native American students combined as “minority” students). City College was also ranked number one nationally in associate degrees awarded to Asian students, and 34th nationally for degrees awarded to Hispanic/Latino students.

During the 1995/96 academic year, City College of San Francisco transferred 1,302 students to the California State University system, and 251 students to the University of California system. Many of our students also transfer to other colleges and universities both in California and out-of-state. Currently, we do not have an exact number of these students or the names of the colleges where they are transferring.
City College of San Francisco has a total transfer rate of 30.4% according to the 1996 Transfer Assembly study. This means that 30.4% of the students who were first time freshmen in the Fall of 1990 transferred to a UC or CSU campus, and had taken at least one class at the senior institution by the Fall of 1994. City College’s transfer rate is almost 10% higher than the current overall California community college transfer rate of 20.6%, and also higher than the current national community college transfer rate of 21.8%.
Transfers to the California State University system
Over 45% of the City College students transferring to the California
State University (CSU) system during the 1995/96 academic year were Asian/Pacific
Islander. The numbers of African American, Hispanic / Latino and Filipino
students transferring to the CSU system have risen over the past four academic
years.
