Gender
In the Fall 1995 term, the majority of our students enrolled in both Credit and Noncredit courses and programs were women. Over 60% of our Noncredit students enrolled during the Fall 1995 term were women. Some of our Noncredit courses and programs such as Family Studies, Licensed Vocational Nursing, and Consumer Education have historically enrolled a higher percentage of women.

Age
Almost 62% of our Credit students enrolled in the Fall 1995 semester were under 30 years old. The 20-24 age group comprised the largest group of students enrolled in Credit courses (over 30%). Many students enrolled in Credit courses have the goal to transfer to a four-year college or university and tend to be younger. On the other hand, over 50% of our Noncredit students are 40 years or older. City College offers many Noncredit courses and programs which appeal to older adults.

ENROLLMENT STATUS IN CREDIT COURSES AND PROGRAMS

The majority of our Credit students enrolled in the Fall 1995 term were Continuing students (58%). Over 13% of the Credit students were new to the college (first time students).

SOURCES OF FIRST TIME STUDENTS

Over 36% of new students to City College come from San Francisco Unified high schools, with another 11% coming from San Francisco private high schools or high schools in San Mateo county.
