Check out materials at the Circulation Desk with your current CCSF ID card. Circulation staff will provide the return (due) date and time upon checkout. Read below for information and links for more details.
Borrowing
A current CCSF photo ID card is required to borrow materials. The library uses the barcode on the ID card. Student, faculty and staff ID cards are available at no charge at a campus Admissions office.

Students

- Campus libraries: 4 to 6 item limit (2 per subject).
- A subject is defined as the same first and second lines of a call number, with some exceptions.

- Loan period: from date of checkout until end of the current semester.
Community Patrons
- Loan period: 3 weeks with 1 renewal if no holds or overdue fees.

The Reserve collections contain materials for specific courses. Only currently registered CCSF students may borrow reserve materials.
- Loan periods vary: 1 hour to 168 hours (7 days). No renewals. Some materials are library use only.
- Limit 1 item. Some materials that are part of a pair, such as a textbook and companion workbook, may be treated as one item for checkout.
Materials in these collections are library use only and may not be borrowed.
Checked out to another borrower
A patron may request that an item be held for her/him when returned by another borrower. Look up the item in CityCat, the library catalog, and find the request button. Requesting an item will prevent the current borrower from renewing it.
At another CCSF campus library
Our inter-campus loan service moves most circulating materials between campus libraries on request. Reference and reserve materials may not be requested via inter-campus loan. Look up the item in CityCat, the library catalog, and find the request button.
- Circulating materials may be returned at any CCSF campus library.
- Reserve materials must be returned to the same library they were checked out from.
- Use the Book Return slot at the Circulation Desk or give items directly to the Circulation staff. When the library is closed, put the material in the book return slot or bin near the library's entrance.
Borrowers are responsible for returning materials by the due date and time. Fines are charged for items returned after the due date.
- Books held beyond the last day of the semester automatically become delinquent.
- If students do not return overdue items, the library will notify the Office of Admissions and Records. A block will be placed on college records. Registration, financial aid, grades and/or transcripts may be blocked until the late material is paid for or returned.
