Women's Basketball Coaching Staff
Jamie M. Hayes Head Coach

Jamie Hayes begins her 8th season with City College of San Francisco Women’s Basketball Program. In her first seven seasons at CCSF, Coach Hayes led the Rams to 3 Coast Conference Championships and 7 post season appearances and 2 final 8 appearances, averaging 24 wins a season. At the same time, her program has helped many student-athletes transfer and earn scholarships to four-year universities.
Coach Hayes is excited for the 2009-10 season as she returns four sophomores – Brittney Allen, Heather Chow, Mone Peoples and Sophia Wan. Coach Hayes also adds to the sophomore class Ciera Foster a transfer from Sierra College and Marlee Rice from San Francisco State University. The sophomores, leveraging last year’s performance with an overall record 33-3 promise to bring an even more determined and committed team to the court.
Incoming freshmen will feature Tierny Jones from Washington High School, Shankel McNeal from Burton High, Shawnte Taylor from Wallenburg High, Shanyece Thomas from Mission High and TC Smith from Alameda High. Coach Hayes is confident that the new faces will add strong support to the team and bring and immediate impact to the season’s performance with their diverse set of talent and strong work ethic.
Prior to becoming the head coach of the CCSF women’s program, Coach Hayes was an assistant coach for the rams from 1996-2002. During the seasons of 1994-96 she earned her AA degree at CCSF and competed in the Coast Conference as a Ram. She earned a BS in Kinesiology from San Francisco State University and an MA in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Saint Mary’s College in Moraga. Coach Hayes resides in San Francisco with her husband Dan.

Derek J. Lau Assistant Coach

Derek Lau enters his 6th year as a member of the CCSF women’s basketball coaching staff. Lau’s responsibilities include individual development of the post players, recruiting, opponent scouting and evaluation and development of defensive and offensive systems.
Prior to coming to CCSF, Lau served as head coach for the Washington High School JV boys’ team. Lau guided his team to the playoffs and finished the season with a 16-4 record.
Lau transferred from CCSF to Long Beach State University where he earned a BA in Criminology. Currently Lau is working on his Masters Degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga. He resides in South San Francisco, CA with his wifeRemi and his son Lucas.
