City College’s women’s soccer team defeated Canada College on Sept 27 to improve their record to 6-1.
The Rams got out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back as they defeated the Colts for the third straight time, 4-1.
Third year head coach Gabe Saucedo was impressed with the win away from home.
“It was a good performance today,” he said. “It was a hard game to play against a team that really packs it in and that makes it difficult. We had all the players inside the box at certain points in the game and we have to find ways around that. It was good practice for us.”
The game started slow but the Rams struck first during the 20th minute when freshmen forward Kiera O’Shea scored. She would go on to score her second goal of the game in the 64th minute as well.
The freshmen from Sacred Heart Cathedral High School has earn more playing time from her hard work ethic, Saucedo said.
“Kiera put in a really solid performance today. I’m really proud of her,” he continued. “When she gets in the game she is very effective. Its great having a scorer come off the bench to pick us up when we need it.”
Two more goals were added by Stephanie Barragan and Juliet Murray to close the door giving the Rams their sixth victory of the season and fourth win in a row.
City College’s next game is Sept 30 against rival Skyline College at 4 p.m. on the new soccer field next to Ram Stadium.

CCSF vs Foothill College
On September 1, 2010 CCSF opened up the season by hosting the defending Coast Conference champions Foothill College. The game was fast and physical and both sides displayed some impressive soccer. CCSF played extremely tough defensively but in the end Foothill’s depth proved too much for the host team. The visitors opened up the scoring early in the first half with a well-executed corner kick.
In the second half Foothill got in behind CCSF’s tough defense and finished off the scoring at 2-0 with a nice assist and goal. CCSF had a couple very good chances on goal but could not break through. Coach Owen Flannery’s team is organized and talented and should be one of the top teams in the state this year. CCSF impressed many of the spectators with their fast and physical style of play and looks to repeat the same type of effort throughout the season.
CCSF vs College of Sequoias
On September 7, 2010 CCSF traveled south to face College of Sequoias. COS proved to be a tough, physical, and well-coached team. Freshman, Alex Montano scored the only goal of the game in the second half with a well placed left-footed shot past the COS goalkeeper.
Coach Gabe Saucedo said, “We are happy with the result. COS always plays tough at home and we’ll take a 1-0 victory any day after traveling four hours and playing in 90 degree heat.” It was a good road win for CCSF and the team feels they got better after playing in such tough conditions.
CCSF vs. Marin
On September 10, 2010 CCSF traveled to the North Bay to take on College of Marin. COM had very athletic and physical players that pressured the ball well on defense. Unfortunately, College of Marin had some injuries during the game and had to finish the game short a couple players.
CCSF also pulled a couple of players to keep the game safe and competitive. Freshman Yvette Flores had three goals on the day. One of her goals came off of Tera Piserchio’s cross from the left flank which Yvette headed into the back of the net. Midfielder Rosa Yoshitsugu added to the goal total with a header of her own on a well placed corner kick from freshman defender Nichole Caiocca.
The final goal of the game came from Sophomore Julie Alba, who made a penetrating run behind COM’s defense and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper. The 5-0 victory brings CCSF’s record to 2 wins and 1 loss. College of Marin’s team plays a tough and physical brand of soccer. They are a much improved team from last year and should look forward to much success this season and in the future.
CCSF vs Contra Costa College
On September 15, 2010 City College of San Francisco traveled to the East Bay to take on Contra Costa College. CCC was a tough and determined team and played a solid game defensively. Coach Saucedo said, “Contra Costa played us tough today. They are a well organized and have a couple of very talented players that gave us some problems.
However, we were able to play our game and managed to consistently create many good scoring opportunities.” Alex Montano, Rosa Yoshitsugu, Christina Barreto, and Christian Bibiano were the goal scorers on the day. The final score was 4-1, pushing CCSF’s record to 3 wins and 1 loss.
CCSF vs Las Positas
On September 17, 2010, CCSF traveled to Livermore to take on Las Positas College in the league opener. Las Positas got on the board first with an early first half goal. CCSF then answered with a corner kick goal from Christina Barreto on an assist from Nichole Caiocca. Las Positas came out strong in the second half as they demonstrated some really good ball possession and movement off the ball.
The home team went up 2-1 on a well taken free kick from about 25 yards away. With about seven minutes left and down one player due to two cautions, CCSF freshman Yvette Flores played a great ball behind the Las Positas defense to teammate Tera Piserchio, who touched the ball around the keeper and into the back of the net. Coach Saucedo said, “Our team showed a lot of heart coming back to tie the game at the end. A tie away from home against a good opponent is a good result, especially being down one player.
We have a lot of things to work on but I’m extremely proud of the team for fighting so hard.” The tie brings CCSF’s record to 3 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. CCSF’s next opponent is Hartnell College at home.
CCSF vs Hartnell College
On September 21, 2010, Hartnell College traveled to San Francisco to take on the Rams at Crocker Amazon Soccer Complex. CCSF controlled the tempo from the start and possessed the ball for most of the game. Hartnell College was well organized and very tough defensively.
CCSF’s skill and depth made the difference in the game as the Rams were able to get shots on goal consistently throughout the game. The game ended with a 6-0 CCSF victory. Goal scorers on the day were Alyssa Thompson, Alex Montano, Ava Biscoe (2), Tera Piserchio, and Gelila Mengistu.
CCSF vs Skyline College
On September 28, 2010, CCSF hosted Skyline College at Crocker Amazon Soccer Complex. The first half was very even as both sides played tough defense and limited each other’s scoring opportunities. CCSF took control of the game in the second half as it added a dangerous attack to its already tough defense. Freshman Tera Piserchio had an awesome second half, scoring all three of the Rams goals. The first goal was set up by an early ball from midfielder Yvette Flores. Piserchio collected the pass on the left side of the penalty area and slammed it home past the Skyline keeper.
In much the same fashion, Piserchio scored the second goal of the game. Forward, Alex Montano sent a dangerous ball past the Skyline backline as Piserchio outraced the defenders and beat the keeper near post. The final goal of the game was a combined team effort. CCSF possessed the ball around the back and through the midfield before making its way to Piserchio’s feet. Tera collected the ball at the top of the 18 from her freshman teammate, Christian Bibiano, turned and shot into the upper right hand corner of the goal.
Coach Saucedo stated, “Everyone contributed to today’s win. The players on the field, the bench, the training staff, and even the fans all played a big role. We try and stress energy and enthusiasm for every game because it brings up our level of play and makes it fun for everyone involved. I am happy with our skill, hard work, energy, and toughness today. We just have to make sure we keep taking steps to improve.” The 3-0 victory gives CCSF an overall record of 5 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie.
CCSF vs Cañada
CCSF welcomed Cañada College to Crocker Amazon on October 1st. Coming in to the game, Cañada College had an impressive 6 wins and 0 losses record. They were playing some really good soccer and scoring lots of goals. However, CCSF was up for the challenge and came out playing impressive soccer right from the start of the match. The Rams scored early and often in the first half as they led 3-0 at halftime. Goal scorers in the first half were Tera Piserchio, Gelila Mengistu, and Alex Montano and the assists came from Sarah Rivas, Nichole Caiocca, and Rosa Yoshitsugu. Cañada played a tough second half and the game ended in a 3-0 win for CCSF. Afterwards, Coach Gabe said, “We played a great game. We showed really good effort and energy all game. We talked at halftime about not letting up in the second half because we knew Cañada was going to come out strong for the last 45 minutes. If the players play this hard every game then we can have a very successful season.” The win today brings the Rams overall record to 6 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties.
CCSF vs Chabot
On October 5th, the Rams traveled to Hayward to take on Chabot College. Chabot had a really good team last year so CCSF was excited about playing them. City got off to a great start in the game with Tera Piserchio scoring in the first minute after receiving a perfectly weighted through ball from midfielder Rosa Yoshitsugu. Piserchio and sophomore Christina Barreto added another goal each to make the game 3-0 at halftime. Piserchio finished off the scoring in the second half making it a 4-0 final in favor of the visiting CCSF Rams. Assists on the day went to Christian Bibiano, Rosa Yoshitsugu, and Gelila Mengistu.
CCSF vs Mission
City College of San Francisco hosted Mission college on October 8th at Crocker Amazon Field. Mission College played tough, organized defense and kept the Rams scoreless for the first 25 minutes of the game. The Rams finally broke through Mission’s defense and managed to score 6 goals on the day. When asked about the game, Coach Saucedo said, “Mission College came to play today. They are a much improved team from last year and they play hard for each other. They have some skilled players and they gave us problems in the first half. Coach Jenna is doing a great job over there.” CCSF’s record is now 9 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties.
CCSF vs Monterey Peninsula College
City College hosted MPC at Crocker Amazon on Friday, October 15th. CCSF played a good defensive game and was able to maintain most of the possession in the game. City College had many scoring opportunities and finished 5 times and allowed 0 goals. Goal scorers were Christina Barreto, Christian Bibiano, Yvette Flores, Alex Montano, and Tera Piserchio. Assists came from Bibiano, Caiocca, Montano, and Piserchio (2). The 5-0 win gives CCSF a record of 10 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties.
CCSF vs Evergreen Valley College
Coach Felicia Perez brought a well organized, skilled, tough team to play CCSF on October 19th at Crocker Amazon. EVC gave City College of San Francisco lots of problems in the first half. EVC took advantage of a CCSF team that was playing slow and unorganized. Evergreen scored first on a cross that was finished off nicely to the far post. CCSF then countered with a goal of their own off of a cross from Nichole Caiocca to Yvette Flores. Yvette made a hard, intelligent run to the near post and was able to redirect the ball past EVC’s keeper. CCSF then took the lead in the second half off of a chip from Gelila Mengistu from right outside the penalty area. With a 2-1 lead, CCSF looked in control of the game until EVC’s speedy midfielder got in behind CCSF’s defense and tied the game at 2-2. The game ended in a draw which brings CCSF’s record to 10 wins, 1 loss, and 3 ties. When asked about his impressions on the game, Coach Gabe said, “EVC came to play today. Coach Felicia is doing an outstanding job getting her team ready for games. They are a speedy, skilled, dangerous team. They came out ready to play and we didn’t. The speed of play shocked us a bit and it took our players a while to adjust. The good news is that we definitely improved as the game went on and we had lots of really good moments throughout the game. We got better today and we’ll definitely be better prepared for our next opponent.”
CCSF vs Las Positas
CCSF hosted Las Positas on Friday, October 22nd. Most of the match was played in the rain and cold which made it tough for both teams to really develop an attack. Las Positas broke through first on a well placed corner kick from Kaitlin Sill and an even better finish from midfielder Gleicinara Fonseca. Las Positas held the lead for about fifteen minutes until forward, Tera Piserchio, leveled the game with a hard shot past the keeper from about fifteen yards out. The second half played much the same way as the first. Both sides played tough defensively and both had equal chances on frame. With about 20 minutes left, Tera Piserchio drew a free kick about 20 yards out that teammate, Nichole Caiocca blasted past the Las Positas goalkeeper. Caiocca’s game winner gave CCSF the lead for good. It was a back and forth game and both sides played well. The victory gives CCSF an overall record of 11 wins, 1 loss, and 3 ties.
CCSF vs West Hills
CCSF took a long ride to Lemoore to play West Hills. CCSF forward, Tera Piserchio opened up the scoring about midway through the first half with a corner kick that curled in just inside the back post. West Hills then threatened the CCSF goal with an inspired attack for the remaining part of the first half. In the second half, CCSF had most of the possession and good looks on goal but could not capitalize. San Francisco held on to the 1-0 victory. Coach Saucedo had a lot to say about the game, “It’s tough taking a three hour drive and playing under these really windy conditions. I’m proud of our players for showing their mental toughness today. They battled all game and played hard enough to come out with a good result. This was a good test for us. It was the second time we’ve taken a long trip this season and we’ve done well both times. Our goalkeepers, Alex Jerez and Jhosselyn Alvarenga did a great job of taking control of their area, especially in this tough wind. We’ll enjoy this victory on the ride back and then start focusing on Friday’s game against Skyline.” The victory gives CCSF a record of 12 wins, 1 loss, and 3 ties.
CCSF vs Skyline
CCSF traveled to San Bruno today to take on Skyline College. San Francisco jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Alyssa Thompson and Tera Piserchio. The fist goal was assisted by Christina Barreto who played an awesome early ball to speedy winger Alyssa Thompson. Thompson received the ball on the left wing, took a few touches to goal and finished beautifully to the far post past the Skyline goalkeeper. The second goal resulted from a nice buildup from CCSF. Christian Bibiano got in on the right side of Skyline’s defense and crossed the ball to Tera Piserchio who calmly finished it off, giving CCSF a 2-0 lead going into half time. The first few minutes of the second half resembled much of the first half. CCSF controlled the run of play and eventually scored a third goal on a well taken penalty kick from Nichole Caiocca. The penalty occurred when winger, Alex Montano, dribbled around Skyline’s left back and headed toward the goal before being taken down in the penalty area. Skyline mounted a good attack and had some good looks at goal but could not get on the board against CCSF’s tough defense. When asked about the game, Coach Saucedo said, “After beating them earlier in the year at our place we knew they would come out really motivated against us. We knew we had to match their energy and intensity if we were going to be successful today. Our players didn’t let us down. This was a total team effort and everyone contributed. We’ll be tough to beat if we play with this much heart every game.”
CCSF vs Ohlone
On November 2nd, CCSF hosted Ohlone College at Crocker Amazon Soccer Complex. The first half was a defensive battle with both sides having limited chances on goal. The second half was much of the same until freshman defender, Rebecca Malave, sent a beautifully weighted through ball to teammate Tera Piserchio, who calmly collected the ball and finished past the onrushing Ohlone goalkeeper. The lone goal was all CCSF needed to claim the victory against a skilled and tough Ohlone team. After the game, Coach Saucedo said, “That was a big win for us….Ohlone is a well coached team with a lot of heart and that’s a bad combination to play against. I thought it was an even game with both sides playing tough, organized defense. Our team defense held it down today and our playmakers made a great play when we needed it.” CCSF now has 14 wins, 1 loss, and 3 ties on the season.
CCSF vs Cañada
On Friday, CCSF traveled south to take on Cañada College. CCSF controlled play in the back and through the midfield but couldn’t get much of an attack going all day. Cañada’s tough defensive gameplan didn’t give CCSF much time or space in the attacking third. Although CCSF got some good looks on goal, they weren’t able to consistently mount an attack. The game ended in a 0-0 tie. When asked about the game, Coach said, “Cañada executed a very impressive defensive gameplan today. They took away our space in the most dangerous part of the field and we never adjusted. At halftime we talked about what we needed to do in the second half but it never materialized. It was frustrating not being able to score today but we also have to look at the positive side. We played good, tough team defense and didn’t allow them much of an attack either. It was also their sophomore day and we knew they were going to be jacked up for the game. We’ll figure out adjustments in practice and in film study but we’re also going to keep it positive because it’s our fourth shutout in a row.”
CCSF vs Chabot
On November 9th, Chabot traveled to San Francisco to take on the Rams. Chabot played tough all day while CCSF struggled with its own attack and defensive organization. The second half was better for CCSF as they outshot and outscored their opponent. CCSF’s two goals were scored by Alex Montano off of assists from Rosa Yoshitsugu and Tera Piserchio. When asked about CCSF’s performance, Coach Saucedo said, “We got off to a slow start today. We weren’t focused in our pregame and it carried through most of the game. Honestly, I don’t think we were mentally ready for this game. I didn’t recognize our team out there today. In past games sometimes our skill wasn’t there but our energy and our heart was always there. We lost our identity on the field today and we have to figure out how to get it back quickly. We’ll figure it out.” The win Brings CCSF’s record to 15 wins, 1 loss, and 4 ties.
CCSF vs Mission
On November 12, CCSF traveled to Santa Clara to take on Mission College. Right from the start, Mission looked to be a much improved team from earlier in the season. With the game tied at 1-1 early in the first half, CCSF looked to pick up their game. Goals quickly followed and the game ended in a 8-1 victory of CCSF. Goal scorers on the day were Christian Bibiano, Megan Fitzsimmons, Yvette Flores, Alex Montano (2), Tera Piserchio (2), and Cyntia Salazar. Assists were recorded by Caiocca, Flores, Pulido (2), Rivas (2), Thompson, and Yoshitsugu. The win gives CCSF a record of 16 wins, 1 loss, and 4 ties but more importantly clinches the Coast Conference Championship for the Rams. When asked about the victory, Coach Saucedo said, “What an awesome way to finish off the regular season. One of our team goals that we set at the beginning of the year was to win the Coast Conference Championship. It definitely wasn’t easy and it took a lot of commitment, leadership and hard work from our players and we got it done. We talked all year about how our team chemistry and determination is more important than skill, or speed, or anything else. I don’t think I’ve ever coached a team like this. They have so much fun and get along so well. Their team chemistry is amazing and I’m so proud of all of them for playing with heart all season.” The win gives the Rams an undefeated Coast Conference record to go along with their championship.
