Guest speaker was American journalist and author Richard Lui. He anchors NBC's Early Today and dayside on MSNBC, where his focus is politics. Lui is also a rotating news anchor for NBC's weekend Today show and contributes reports for the NBC News Investigation Unit. His passion for politics started in the 70's. This interest turned into a job when he was nineteen years old. In this position, Richard Lui served as the campaign manager for San Francisco College Board incumbent Alan Wong. He has covered important stories, including Dianne Feinstein's first successful U.S. Senate campaign, the Rodney King riots and verdict, and reports from Asia. Mr. Lui has spent fifteen years in business with Fortune 500 and technology companies and has been involved in community leadership for twenty-five years in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the United States. He is an ambassador for APIASF (Asian Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund). Most importantly, he is a graduate of City College of San Francisco and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley.

First student speaker wass Afara Lalaind, a mother and student in the Fire Science Technology Program. She is a proud mentor for the grant-funded Women's Fire Science Association, a volunteer for the San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program, American Lung Association's Fight for Air Climb, and San Francisco Unified School District's Reading Partners. She graduated with an A.S. in Fire Science with honors and plans on transferring to a four-year university to earn her Bachelor's degree.

Second student speaker was Carl Irons, who returned to school after nearly twenty-five years of incarceration. While incarcerated, Carl developed an interest in law, and he currently does freelance paralegal work for attorneys. For nearly twenty years, Mr. Irons has been a volunteer facilitator with the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP), an organization that conducts workshops in community and correctional facilities. Carl is graduating with honors and receiving his Associate-of-Science degree in Paralegal/Legal Studies, and he has been accepted to CSU-San Francisco State University where he will major in Political Science. He is a member of the Second Chance Program and has served on the Advisory Board for E.O.P.S. ---
