The Periodical department hires students with Financial Aid (College Work Study). If you are interested in applying for a job, please bring your Work Study Award Letter and apply at Room 410. Completed applications are kept only for 1 semester, so please reapply every semester if you are interested. The pay is $9.00/hr with 4-15 work hours per week depending on your work study award amount. Check this site regularly for changes in job availability.

STUDENT ASSISTANT JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Student workers are expected to report for work promptly. When a worker is to be absent, he or she is expected to notify the department as early as possible. Please call in the Fall and Spring semesters 452-5447 (Anitra) or 452-5439 (Frances). During Summer school please call 452-5447. If there is no answer please leave your message on the voice mail.

Duties which student assistants may be expected to perform are as follows:

Shelve periodicals in alphabetical order by title.
Search for missing periodicals on the different library floors as the occasion warrants.
Place periodicals in appropriate binders or holders.
Run errands, such as to get mail or go to duplicating.
Operate and maintain microfilm readers and reader printers for patrons.
Check filing order of periodicals and microfilm reels as necessary.
Check in periodicals when necessary.
Deliver mail to departments in the library when necessary.
Straighten shelves.
Assist patrons whenever necessary.
Assist in discarding materials.
Check out materials for copying for students.
Check out materials for faculty.

Also Remember:
No absences unless absolutely necessary. Please inform supervisors of any known time when you can not work.
Working period extends to end of Finals Period.
Stay busy--there is always work to do.
Keep an eye on the desk--your first priority is to be of assistance to students. Please be Friendly!
Do your work carefully--accuracy and neatness are critical.
Please sign your name to any notes or questions that you leave for the Library Technicians or Librarian.
Let your supervisors know if you have any problems with work or if you have any suggestions for improving this department.
