"Students, faculty, classified, administrators and trustees traveled to the state capitol in Sacramento on March 15 to petition the Governor and members of the Legislature for fairness and equity in all budget matters pertaining to the California community colleges. Standing in front of the crowd, estimated at 12,000 people, were more than 100 mannequins decorated by community college art students and standing in for the nearly 175,000 students believed to have been deterred from entering community colleges this year because of previous budget cuts and fee increases. Clockwise from above are marchers along the Capital Mall, protesters at the rally on the West Steps of the Capitol, ‘Missing Student Project’ mannequins on display in the Visual Arts quad on the Ocean Avenue Campus, and protesters boarding buses in front of Conlan Hall on the Ocean Avenue Campus. Through March the Missing Students statues will be on display in the Louise and Claude Rosenberg, Jr., Library and Conlan Hall on the Ocean Avenue Campus, and at 33 Gough St." Source: City Currents, March 22-28, 2004, p.1
