Our Library, Then and Now: A History of Library Work
While cleaning out our back rooms and storage areas, we found many old tools and supplies. Some of the tools were a complete mystery to us, we had no idea what they were for. We decided to present a history of library technology through these artifacts, telling the story of how we do our work to make our resources accessible for the City College Community, then and now. An exhibition of library tools and supplies of the past illustrates the advances in library and general office technology. We can see how quickly systems of work can change with innovactions and new technology. Some things haven't changed at all. The world of information retrieval has changed dramatically and is still changing so quickly that it's hard to keep up. For some folks, it might be hard to imagine life before computers, photocopiers and fax machines. --Exhibition Statement by Marian Gallerani, Mary Marsh and Chris Kox |
