--statement from the exhibition "The Jewish Roots of Superhero Comics: Prominent in American culture and mythologies are the superheroes: Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, etc. These characters are iconic expressions of American culture and values. The 1930s origins of this genre are with the Jewish American publishers, writers, and artists who introduced the comic book superhero. This is no coincidence. The themes of Otherness and exclusion from this marginalized minority found new expression in stories of the fight for 'truth, justice, and the American way.'" --excerpt from statement by Lou Schubert, CCSF Instructor, Political Science Department and American Studies 5: Comics, Power & Society "A New Book Collection: Come into the Rosenberg Library and check out our new Browsing Collection of fiction, mysteries, science fiction and romance novels. The Browsing Collection is on the fourth floor between the two reference desks."
