Prof. Yung has been teaching at CCSF since 2000
Rob Yung is an Instructor in the Bridge to Biotechnology program at City College of San Francisco, where he has helped pioneer Contextualized Teaching and Learning, fusing basic skills English instruction with science content for under-prepared students destined for the local biotech industry. Currently he is scaling up the proven practices of CCSF’s biotech programs to community colleges nationwide through a National Science Foundation grant. Rob has almost 20 years of experience in all aspects of native and non-native speaker language instruction ranging from low-level immigrant literacy and survival English, to vocational ESL, to advanced composition for native speakers. He has a keen interest in teaching students how to learn and in helping adults return to college. Most
Bay Area universities have utilized his skills, including the University of San Francisco, Cañada College, and the American Language Institute and the English Department at SFSU. In a previous life, Rob was an EFL teacher, teacher trainer and humanitarian development worker for the U.S. Peace Corps in Pak Eesan, Thailand. Rob has an MA in English with a Concentration in ESL, and a Certificate in Teaching Composition from SFSU. He also has a Cambridge/Royal Society of the Arts Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA).
