Chemistry Department

B.A., Princeton University; Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley

I have been teaching at CCSF since 1987.

My goal is to have students see that they can master chemistry and other science/technology/engineering/math (STEM) disciplines by encouraging active learning and providing support and resources. It's especially inspiring to see students, who initially had fears or never imagined they would choose such fields, to turn on and excel.

I understand that many students come from situations where no one in their social circle knows what it means to commit to academics or to study and enjoy subjects like chemistry. I experienced this myself as the first person in my family to earn a college degree, and I try to keep it in mind as I guide students' learning.

CCSF Activities: MESA Center, Multicultural Infusion Project, American Federation of Teachers 2121

Professional Associations: American Chemical Society--Chemical Education and Inorganic Divisions,
2YC3 (2-Year College Chemistry Consortium)

Other Interests: Alternative Politics, Swimming, Languages, Travel
