B.A., M.A., Justus Liebig University, Giessen, Germany; M.A., San Francisco State University

I have been teaching Biology since 1998 and have been a full-time tenured professor at CCSF since 2000.

I strive to share the awe and fascination I have for both cells (Bio 101A) and ecosystems (Bio 20) with my students; inspire students to give their best and gain a thorough understanding of scientific concepts, methods, and skills; develop more and more student-centered teaching methods that foster active learning; and learn from my students as much as I can to understand what they need from my classes to succeed in their academic goals.

At CCSF, I have been involved in the CCSF Mentoring program (since 2000), Service learning program (since 2003), , Multicultural infusion project (since 2003). I direct the Center for Habitat Restoration (since 2002), and have supported students creating a native plant garden and the campus bikery. Currently, I serve on the sustainability subcommittee.

I have published the following books: Greenways in the United States - an example of public-private partnerships, Zentrum fuer Regionale Entwicklungsforschung, Giessen 1991 and Environmental Impact Assessment of Vocational Instruction, Verbraucherzentrale Nuernberg, Nuernberg 1992.
From 2005-2006, as a Carnegie Scholar (Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning), I researched the need for 'culturing" ecology instruction.

Besides teaching, I enjoy being with friends, practicing yoga, hiking, gardening and reading.
