Dr. Thiry started his employment at CCSF in the Fall of 1984. He truly enjoyed the challenge offered to him by the City College environment. He began teaching in the Engineering Department and transferred to the Computer and Information Science (CIS) Department in 1998. In 2002, he became the first chair of the newly created Computer Networking and Information Technology (CNIT) Department where he was a full-time Instructor until May 2014. Since September 2008, he is the Principal Investigator of the Mid-Pacific Information and Communication Tecnologies (MPICT) Regional Center funded by the National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Education (NSF-ATE) Program (DUE 1205159). This grant ends on August 31, 2015, which will also be the date of the retirement of Dr. Thiry from City College..

Keeping abreast of the new technologies and making them available to Community College students has been a real passion of his.

He is co-author of a textbook Elements de Machines and has written over thirty articles, mostly pertaining to Bioengineering. He is a registered Mechanical Engineer in California and holds CCNA, CCAI and Network+ Certifications. He has also been Coordinator of Environmental Technology and Director of the Regional Environmental Business and Assistance Center.from 1994 to 1998. He was the PTA president of the Longfellow Middle School in Berkeley in 2004-2005..
He holds membership in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

Listening to classical music, and keeping fit by jogging regularly and riding his bicycle in the East Bay hills.
