Students who plan to enroll in CHEM 101A and who have not passed CHEM 40 or 50 at City College are required to take a placement exam in chemistry. Professor Armstrong has taught at CCSF since 1990 and has been Department Chair for the past three years. He has also been the Chair of the CCSF Program Review Committee.

His educational goal is to give his students a rigorous preparation for their professional/academic goals, while conveying the excitement and wide applicability of chemistry.

Map-collecting, birding, classical piano and hiking are some of his extracurricular interests.
