There will be a MANDATORY pre-academy required meeting on Monday: 1/13/14 from 6-9pm at the Airport Campus Room 8. Students enrolled in F SC 111 or attempting to add F SC 111 MUST be present for this meeting. F SC 105B-001 required enrollment, add stickers will be issued with F SC 111 first night of fire academy. PE 29 is enforced as a pre-requisite. Saturday sessions will meet on additional dates.

Acting Battalion Chief Juratovac received her Bachelorís degree in English and Minor in Asian American Studies from U.C. Berkeley in 1990. She then worked in the business and marketing field prior to obtaining her Juris Doctorate in 1996. She is also a graduate of CCSF, having received her A.S. in Fire Science Technology and Certificate in Fire Protection.

Chief Juratovac completed the United States Fire Administration's National Fire Academy four-year Executive Fire Officer Program in 2005 and obtained the California State Fire Training and Education Systemís Fire Officer and Chief Officer certificates in 2003 and 2005, respectively. Chief Juratovac also earned her Fire Instructor I certificate through the state in 2003. She is also a state certified Hazardous Materials Specialist, and possesses certifications in Rescue Systems I and II, Trench Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Auto Extrication, Wildland, SCUBA, and numerous other certifications. She is qualified to work on the San Francisco Fire Department's Heavy Rescue Squad and Surf Rescue companies.

She has been an adjunct faculty member at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD since 2003. Chief Juratovac has been teaching at CCSF's Fire Science Technology Program since 2003.

Chief Juratovac has been with the San Francisco Fire Department since 1997 beginning at the rank of Firefighter/EMT. She has been assigned to some of the busiest engine and truck companies, including Engine 7 and Truck 7, in the City's Mission District, and Truck 1, one of the busiest truck companies in the country. She is currently serving Battalions 6, 9, and 10, which reflect the Mission/NoeValley, Ingleside, and Hunters Point/Bayview Districts.

Chief Juratovac has enjoyed a myriad of other assignments, including surf/cliff rescue stations, as well as an administrative assignment reporting directly to the Chief of Department and two Deputy Chiefs. She also served as a field training officer to probationary Firefighter/EMTs and Firefighter/Paramedics.

Throughout her career, Chief Juratovac has balanced the need to augment one's education, training, and experience, as championed by the United States Fire Administration and its "Learning Triad." As an ex-student/athlete, Chief Juratovac encourages students to be well-rounded, supporting various campus activities outside of her classroom.

Chief Juratovac ensures a learning environment that fosters dignity and respect for all students so as to create an interactive and productive setting. Chief Juratovac's goal for each student is to have him/her use her class and others at CCSF as a conduit to an Associate's degree so that many more doors of opportunity may swing open (i.e., admission to a four-year university, an entry-level position as a firefighter and or paramedic, etc.).

Chief Juratovac participates in a variety of community events, including training citizens within the fire department-sponsored Neighborhood Emergency Response Team. She is also a member of the International Association of Fire Chief's Safety, Health, and Survival Section's Website Committee and is a contributing author of various fire and emergency services textbooks. Chief Juratovac is a member of a number of professional associations within the American Fire Service and acts as an assessor assisting many fire departments across the country hire and promote the best candidates.

A product of San Francisco, Chief Juratovac grew up in the Richmond, North Beach, and Western Addition Districts. She is humbled that she gets to serve the very City she grew up in and still resides in today. Chief Juratovac graduated from Galileo High School where she was named San Francisco Unified School District's Girl Student/Athlete of the Year.

In her spare time, Chief Juratovac enjoys team sports, reading, writing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
