CCSF Macs

Stats

About 7.5% of the computers at CCSF are Macintoshes: iMacs or PowerBooks. All run OS X and Microsoft Office software. During the bond-funded upgrade of 2002-2003, new iMacs were placed on desktops on all campuses if two conditions were fulfilled:

  • The Faculty or Staff person preferred to work on a Macintosh and
  • The Department head approved

Some full-time faculty were given new 15" G4 PowerBooks instead of a desktop.

Macs, networking, and individual accounts

As of the date at the bottom of this page, Macs are not on the campus network:

  • All logins to individual Macs work only on that individual computer
  • Users do not have access through Macs to a shared network space (the H: drive)

The advantages of a personal account on an individual Mac:

  • A secure desktop and Documents folder that only you can access. Other users sharing that computer cannot change or delete your work as long as you save in these areas.
  • Your own bookmarks in Internet Explorer and Safari separate from those of other users

Getting a Mac account

To get an account on an individual CCSF Mac:

  • Get your GroupWise and Network accounts (here's how)
  • Then contact your local ITS Staff person or call the Help Desk (239-3711)
  • For more information on Mac accounts, logging on and changing passwords, go to the Mac Accounts page.

You will need to specify the exact location of each computer on which you want an account.

Adding a CCSF Printer

You must plug into an active CCSF Ethernet/NNetwork jack with an Ethernet cable before you can add a pinter and print to a CCSF printer. You can't print form a CCSF wireless connection.

The steps for adding a printer are in this Adding a CCSF Printer pdf.
