TANF

In recognition of the importance of early child educators, a program is available to CalWORKs students who are taking child development courses and pursuing a teaching permit.

In the TANF-Child Development Careers Program, TANF/CalWORKs cash aid recipients can receive help with books, transportation costs, educational and other expenses. If you meet the criteria below and are pursuing your teaching permit, you will also receive personal counseling, tutoring, mentoring from a master teacher and access to work study and workshop opportunities.

In order to be eligible to take advantage of this program you must:

  • Currently receive TANF/CalWORKs cash aid
  • Have an approved Welfare to Work Plan which includes approval to pursue coursework and training in Child Development
  • Confirm commitment to pursue an Associate Teacher/Teacher permit
  • Complete interview and assessment
  • Complete a fingerprinting and criminal background check

We encourage you to contact Mary Hegwood at 452-5605 or visit the Foundation for California Community Colleges for further information.
