Biography
Deborah Goldsmith received a B.A. in philosophy at Pomona College
in Claremont, California. After several years of secretarial work
she was inspired to study economics and political economy at the
University of California, Riverside. Moving on to U.C. Berkeley,
she earned her master's degree in economics, specializing in labor
economics, economic development, and political economy. She taught
part-time at various Bay Area colleges during 1981-1984 and again
from 1993-1995, when she happily became a full-time instructor here
at City College.
Deborah greatly enjoys the diverse and stimulating City College
community. She particularly appreciates the opportunity she has
received to develop Economics 25 and participate in Women's Studies
as well as the Social Sciences Department. The need to explain economic
issues to curious students keeps her busy following the ever-changing
U.S. economy and policy debates. Her personal studies focus on expanding
her knowledge of the different histories, cultures, and economic
activities of U.S. women and the interrelated effects of sex/gender,
race-ethnicity, and class.
