Passports and Visas

PASSPORTS

So, you've found the study abroad program that's right for you and you're ready to travel? Do you have a current passport? If you don't, read on, as you will need a passport to visit another country and to return to the United States.

You should be aware that some countries require that your U.S. passport BE VALID FOR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS or longer beyond the dates of your study abroad program/trip abroad, so it is best not to travel with a passport that will expire shortly.

If you need a new passport or want to renew your expired passport, visit the State Department's website for a downloadable application: http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html

VISAS

It is vital that you check the entry requirements with the Consular Officials of the countries to be visited WELL IN ADVANCE of your departure for overseas.

For passport and visa requirements and consular information, you can visit travel.state.gov/foreignentryreqs.html .

If you live in the Bay Area, you can also click on "Consulates" on the toolbar to the left for contact information for local Consulates.
