| THE ACADEMIC CURRICULUM
Italian Language (Ital 1 = 1A +1B, 2 = 2A
+2B, 3A, 3B, 4A, 4B)
Language instruction takes place at the Scuola
Leonardo da Vinci, which specializes in Italian language instruction
for foreigners. Italian grammar courses are taught at levels from
beginning to advanced. Taught in Italian. CSU/UC. 3, 5 or 6 units.
Italian Conversation (Ital 10A, 10B, 10C, 10D)
This course is specially designed to enable
participants to start using Italian immediately in everyday situations
and to develop practical vocabulary. Taught in Italian. CSU. 3 units.
Western Art History: 4th Century to the Early Renaissance (Art 102)
- Fall only
A survey of Western Art from the fourth century to the early Renaissance.
The course begins with the Roman era as an introduction, and continues
to the early Renaissance. All art is discussed from both critical
and historical perspectives, with regard to formal visual elements
of style and the social context of the values and ideas that gave
birth to Western Art. On-site lectures at museums, monuments and historical
sites. Taught in English. CSU/UC. 3 units. Taught in Florence.
Western Art History: Late Renaissance to 19th Century (Art 103) -
Spring only
A survey of the developments in art from the
late Renaissance to the 19th century. All art is discussed from both
critical and historical perspectives, with regard to formal visual
elements of style and the social context of the values and ideas that
gave birth to Western Art. On-site lectures at museums, monuments
and historical sites in Florence. Taught in English. CSU/UC. 3 units. Taught in Florence.
Europe Since 1900 (History 5) (Fall and Spring)
A survey of developments since 1900 with emphasis on European and world relationships since 1914.
The political-economic-soical effects on Europe of the World Wars and the power blocks. The reason for current European attitudes. On-site lectures at museums and historial sites in Florence. CSU/UC
3 units. Taught in Rome.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRANSFERABILITY
It is recommended that you discuss your participation in the Rome & Florence
program with the staff of the CCSF Study Abroad Office prior to application.
For an appointment, call 415/239-3778. Attendance at a pre-departure
orientation meeting is mandatory. On-site orientation will be given
in Rome & Florence. Out-of-state students and others not living in California
are encouraged to complete counseling and orientation by telephone
and mail correspondence. All courses are transferable to the CSU system.
All courses except Italian Conversation are transferable to the UC
system.
ACADEMIC YEAR STUDENTS
Students wishing to sign up for a second
semester may do so before leaving the United States or once overseas.
