The
Speech Communication Lab
The Speech Communication Lab provides students enrolled in English Department
courses
with academic support in the discipline of speech communication. The Lab
is staffed
by speech communication faculty and offers one-on-one tutoring, workshops
and study
groups.
- Students may receive assistance with the following:
- selecting the right topic for the right speech
- organizing and developing a speech outline
- writing the most effective introductions and conclusions
- creating and using visual aids
- researching a speech topic
- practicing all aspects of delivery from eye contact to the use of
note cards
Videotaping is available. Please bring your own VHS videotape.
An overhead machine
is available for practice.
The Speech Lab is located in Cloud Hall, Room 268 on the Ocean Avenue
Campus.
The Lab opens the third week of the semester and closes two weeks before
the semester
ends. Please call 239-3390 for the hours. The Lab is
open in the fall and spring
semester. Please call regarding summer session.
- Speech Lab Policies:
- Sign in on the sheet at the counter.
- Appointments are not taken; all students are encouraged to drop in.
- Drop-ins will be seen on a first-come, first-serve basis; students
are not guaranteed
to be seen.
- Students with required lab hours must tell the faculty tutor.
- Tutors do not proofread outlines for grammar; they address issues
related to the
speech writing process.
