History
The Evans Campus is the newest established site of the City College of San Francisco. The Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989 rendered the John O'Connell Campus and the Auto/Welding facility on Fourth and Harrison Street inoperable. All programs previously housed at the John O'Connell site were relocated to other facilities on a temporary basis [The Auto/Welding facility was temporarily repaired but was found to be unsafe for long term occupancy. A new replacement site was sought by the District.] It was not until 1994 when a new site at 1400 Evans Avenue was secured. The old name, John O'Connell, was then abandoned in favor of the name of the new campus. The plan for Evans Campus reflects the current and future commitment of the college in workforce education.

Mission Statement
The common denominator for each Evans Campus function is the commitment to workforce education and innovation. Evans Campus is committed to meeting the increasing demands of the high-performance workplace of the 21st century. By offering a variety of challenging vocational programs and services, the College can better prepare students from the local community and other parts of San Francisco for employment in fields with promising careers. The campus intends to train a student body of about 3,000 whose main educational goals are entry into the workforce, job upgrading, or new careers and transfer to institutions for more advanced coursework or training.
