Mr. Thornton has been teaching at CCSF since 1997.

Having come from a long family line of teachers, Mr. Thornton feels that teaching is "in my genetic code. As a technologist working in the Radiology Department at UCSF since 1991, I have tried to make a difference in the lives of the patients with whom I come in contact. I am pleased to have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students with whom I come in contact and help them realize their goals. I especially take pride in assisting those students who may be the first member of their family to graduate from college. Just as my education was my ticket to bigger and better things, so it is for others. I appreciate the support I receive from CCSF as I attempt to make a difference in the lives of others."

He has been involved in the campus-wide mentor program, as well as the SCANS project and will be taking part in the college self study during the Fall 2004 semester.

Mr. Thornton has served in various capacities of the Board of Directors for the California Society of Radiologic Technologists, and continues to serve on the Scholarship Review Committee of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists -that organization awards annual scholarships to radiology students across the country.

His favorite sports include snow and water-skiing, snorkeling in Hawaii and the Caribbean, and competitive ballroom dancing.

Marilyn Rose   BA, CRT, RT(R), RDMS

I was born in Walnut Creek and raised in the East Baby. I began my extended schooling at a community college in Pittsburg (LMC).  I was involved in math and science.  I played softball for the Math club, and was a tutor in biology, math and psychology.  I went on to Sonoma State where I double majored in Biology and Psychology.   I was employed as a bank teller, so upon graduation I moved back home with my parents to find a better job.  I began working for a temp agency that employed people in science.  I started my biotechnology career as a glassware washer.  I soon moved up to media kitchen, research aid, and finally health and safety coordinator.  Having a desk job was not my calling.  I became bored and yearned for a career that was more involved with people.  I found the City College Radiation Oncology program on the internet and gave Les a call.  I came out to City College and met with him and felt very gratified that I had found a direction that was more to my liking.  I was accepted for the January term so I finished up my time at the lab in December.  However, not before I began dating one of the medicinal chemists’s whose glassware I used to wash!  Upon beginning my first semester at City College I became acquainted with Diane, and she soon convinced me to change directions and go into DMI.  I thought long and hard about it, and decided to switch and return one day and finish the radiation oncology program.  I really got excited about learning DMI and felt I had finally found the career I was met to have. By the way, I fit in marrying my chemist, Jack during the second semester of the DMI program!  Then, in my internship, I rotated though ultrasound for three weeks.  I was so fascinated with what sound could do and see.  It was like shining a flashlight into the body and angling it in all directions.  There was more pathology, and more time with each patient.  So, I applied to the US program at Foothill and began the same summer I graduated from DMI in 2003.  I completed the US program in 2004 and began work at one of my clinical sites, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford.  Last year I was called back to City College to return to the DMI program as an instructor.  I still love talking about bones, and what it means to have high standards in patient care.  We will see, one day I may return as a student again….
