Marilyn Rose BA, CRT, RT(R), RDMS I was born in Walnut Creek and raised in the East Baby. I began my extended schooling at a community college in Pittsburg (LMC). I was involved in math and science. I played softball for the Math club, and was a tutor in biology, math and psychology. I went on to Sonoma State where I double majored in Biology and Psychology. I was employed as a bank teller, so upon graduation I moved back home with my parents to find a better job. I began working for a temp agency that employed people in science. I started my biotechnology career as a glassware washer. I soon moved up to media kitchen, research aid, and finally health and safety coordinator. Having a desk job was not my calling. I became bored and yearned for a career that was more involved with people. I found the City College Radiation Oncology program on the internet and gave Les a call. I came out to City College and met with him and felt very gratified that I had found a direction that was more to my liking. I was accepted for the January term so I finished up my time at the lab in December. However, not before I began dating one of the medicinal chemists’s whose glassware I used to wash! Upon beginning my first semester at City College I became acquainted with Diane, and she soon convinced me to change directions and go into DMI. I thought long and hard about it, and decided to switch and return one day and finish the radiation oncology program. I really got excited about learning DMI and felt I had finally found the career I was met to have. By the way, I fit in marrying my chemist, Jack during the second semester of the DMI program! Then, in my internship, I rotated though ultrasound for three weeks. I was so fascinated with what sound could do and see. It was like shining a flashlight into the body and angling it in all directions. There was more pathology, and more time with each patient. So, I applied to the US program at Foothill and began the same summer I graduated from DMI in 2003. I completed the US program in 2004 and began work at one of my clinical sites, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. Last year I was called back to City College to return to the DMI program as an instructor. I still love talking about bones, and what it means to have high standards in patient care. We will see, one day I may return as a student again….
