Q: What are the SFCCD Police Department's hours?
A: The main police station at Ocean Campus (50 Phelan/C119) is open 24/7.  Hours at district campuses may vary.  There are police officer on the Ocean Campus 24 hours a day 365 days a year.  You can contacts us at anytime.

Q: Are you the real police?
A: Yes, we are police officers.  Our primary jurisdiction is the San Francisco Community College District and adjacent streets and sidewalks.  The SFCCD PD's arrest authority extends to any place within the State of California.  The officers employed by the Community College District must graduate from a POST Certified academy and also attend continuing training in law enforcement and other appropriate topics.  Community College Police Officers are granted full time peace officer arrest authority pursuant to Penal Code Section 830.32 and Education Code Section 72330.

Q: I'm a guest on campus, where should I park?
A: If you don’t have a red one-day parking pass or other type of permit, guest parking is available in the lower reservoir parking lot located on Phelan Ave.  You may purchase an all-day parking permit for $2.   If you have a red one-day parking pass, please ensure that it is filled out with the proper date, time, location, and vehicle info, and prominently display it on your dashboard.  You can visit our parking information page for more about parking.

Q: I Received a parking ticket, what should I do?
Section 40202 of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) mandates that law enforcement officers cannot “conceal, modify, nullify, or destroy” a parking citation after it has been issued.  Tickets issued on Community College District property are processed through the San Francisco Department of Parking and Traffic(DPT).  Instructions on how to protest or pay the ticket are contained on the reverse of the ticket.  To avoid further tickets please review our parking information page.

Q: Can you sign off on a fix-it-ticket?
A: As state peace officers, SFCCDPD police officers have the authority to sign off on a “fix-it” ticket.   You must have the violation corrected and have the ticket in your possession.  (Non-sworn security officers and student officers do not have the authority to sign-off “fix-it” tickets).

Q: I'm an instructor and need to get into the building/classroom, can you unlock the doors?
A: SFCCPD officers will only allow persons into a building by prior arrangement with the Buildings and Grounds department, Dean, or other Administrator.  To use a building or facility contact Building and Grounds at (415) 239-3546.

Q: My car battery is dead, can you help?
A: You may contact your road-side assistance company for help. If you are on or near the campus call SFCCD Police at (415) 239-3200. Visit services page for more information.

Q: I locked my keys in the car, what should I do?
A: You may contact your road-side assistance company for help.  If you are on or near the campus call SFCCD Police at (415) 239-3200.  With some vehicles, campus police officers may be able to assist you in gaining entry.  With many newer models, however, this may not be possible.  If assisted by campus police, the department and the district entails no liability for any damage that may be caused by assisting in vehicle entry.

Q: What is your chain of command?
A: The department has a paramilitary chain of command.  Sergeants are in charge of each watch and administration.  The department head is the Chief of Police.   The Chief reports to the Vice-Chancellor of Finance and Administration.

Q: Where do I get a parking permit?
A: If you're a student, permits can be purchased online via the Registration Center.  For more information call the Student Bank (415) 239-3345 .

If you're a faculty or staff member parking permits can be obtained at the Campus Police Office located in Cloud Hall Room C119 or C120. Be sure to have your vehicle information and proper identification with you. Also one day parking permits are available at the Campus Police Office.

Q: I filed a police report with the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD).  Do I need to file a report with the San Francisco Community College District Police Department (SFCCDPD)?
A: Only one report is required to be made, either with SFPD or SFCCPD. Both SFPD and SFCCDPD reports get entered into the same database at the Hall Of Justice. However if you have filled a report with SFPD and you want to let us know about the incident contact us and give the SFPD case number.

Q: Can I go on a ride-along?
A: Yes you can. Call (415) 239-3200 and ask to speak with a Sergeant or the Chief to schedule a date.

Q: I have a complaint about the SFCCD Police or a specific police officer. What should I do? 
A: During most weekdays, there is a police supervisor on duty until the campuses close.  If you wish to talk to a supervisor, you may contact them at (415) 239-3200.  You may also file a written complaint, which goes to the Chief of Police for investigation.  A copy of this blank form may be obtained at any police station.  Instructions for completion and routing are on the form.
