In 1980, pursuant to Education Code 72330, the Governing Board of the San Francisco Community College District established the San Francisco Community College District Police Department. The SFCCPD is a full service Law Enforcement Agency. Under the Command of Chief Koehler over three Sergeants, thirty sworn Peace Officers and a dozen Campus Control Aides, the police department provides a complete range of Law Enforcement and Security Services for this large urban Community College District. With over 110,000 full time equivalent students at twelve campuses in the City and County of San Francisco the men and women of the SFCCDPD usually are quite busy with crime suppression efforts. Yet many other services are available for the college community.
Community College Police Officers
The officers employed by the Community College District must graduate from a POST Certified academy and also attend continuing training in law enforcement and other appropriate topics. Community College Police Officers are granted full time peace officer arrest authority pursuant to Penal Code Section 830.32 and Education Code Section 72330. Arrest authority extends to any place within the State of California.
