Holman Turner is a part-time instructor who has taught a variety of classes for the Photography Department at City College of San Francisco since 1996.  His classes have included Phot 51 Beginning Photography, Phot 55 Color Theory, Phot 83 View Camera Techniques, and 101F Polaroid & Emulsion Transfer Photography.  However, it has been Phot 85B Advanced Lighting Techniques, Phot 90 Portraiture, and Phot 101C Self-Portraiture that have been his main areas of concentration.

Holman is the former Co-Director of the Photography Department at the Academy of Art University, where he taught a wide range of classes that included both highly technical and fine art related subjects.

Six months after graduation from art school, Holman entered and won the regional Festival 2000 Portrait Contest in San Francisco.  The San Francisco Art Commission sponsored Festival 2000 and exhibited his work at the Performing Arts Library and Museum.

Holman has worked for the past 20 years as a commercial photographer but has never lost his love of the fine art image, or working with students.  He has dedicated himself to passing on lessons learned and how students can “make a living” doing something they love –Photography.

Holman’s real love in photography is light.  The subject of that light is often irrelevant.  He simply feels a need to put it on any and everything he can find.

He hopes that you will one day join him in this quest to capture and embrace the beauty of light in one of his classes.
