PHOTOGRAPHERS AND THEIR IMAGES (THE LECTURE SERIES) Spring 2008 One unit Cr/Nc, CRN 31765 - SC.591 (ENROLLMENT REQUIRED) Rosenberg Library Auditorium, Rm. #305 6:30 - 9:30 P.M. Lectures are on the following Mondays.
Jan. 28th, First meeting This important orientation is to accept adds, confirm enrollment, receive outlines and requirements, discuss format, and to make sure you receive credit for this course .
Feb. 4th, Deborah Oropallo One of the art treasures in the Bay Area, Oropallo has morphed her art work again, as digital photography takes her into yet another direction. What personal philosophy she might share is universal to all art. A recent showing of her new work at the De Young Museum, brought rave reviews.
Feb. 25th, Beth Moon Originally a fine arts student, her ethereal, figurative, and scenic photography, where time is often transcended, is only the beginning of the long, important process of the hand coated platinum & palladium metals she uses for final prints. Her complex multi-layered work is breathtaking. .
March 10th, Stephen Johnson Featured in CA, Life, American Photo, Outdoor Photo, and ABC Discovery News, he is recognized as a digital photography pioneer. His books include Mono Lake, The Great Central Valley, California Heartland, and Making a Digital Book. He is known for his passionate lectures on photography.
April 7th, Deborah Jones The numerous awards she has won in so many different areas of still life and in particular, food photography only begin to touch on the elegant simplicity of her vision. Her studio has been designed so she might capture much the available light she uses in so many of her images.
April 21st, Jim Dennis Student, then assistant to Ruth Bernhard, Jim Dennis' nude photography is a celebration of the human form. His work which spans over 30 years is in the collections of museums across the country.....This evening Mr. Dennis will not only show and talk about his work, but he will be giving a live demonstration on working with the nude model.
