Sining Kambayoka Ensemble [SKE]
February 12, 2002, Tuesday
Student Union, Upper Level
11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Under the direction of award-winning theater director Sunnie Clemen
Noel, the fourteen-member ensemble will perform traditional music and dance
of the diverse tribal groups indigenous to Southern Philippines, and the
story telling theater piece Kwentong Maranao. Combining the melismatic
and poetic forms of bayok and darangen, traditional kulintang music and
dance, Kwento Maranao tells of the adventures of the mischievous folk hero
Pilandok and his flying banig (mat), the monstrous witch Busaw and the
beautiful Potre. With traditional okir set-design and the ingenious
use of richly colored tribal fabric, traditional dances of the Subanun,
Tiboli, Tiruray, Maguindanaon, Maranao, and Tausug people will be performed.
