City College of San Francisco's George Rush has been named Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association for the second time, following his team's third straight season as state and national junior- college champion.
The Rams had a 12-0 record in each of those years, and in the past 10 years, are 108-7, a winning percentage of .939.
Rush, who has been head football coach at CCSF for a quarter century, won the same national coaching honor in 1999.
As many as 22 players from this year's unbeaten squad are expected to receive full scholarships from four-year schools, following a trend that has seen a 95 percent transfer rate for Rush's sophomore athletes.
Rush will be honored by San Francisco mayor Willie Brown Monday at 6 p.m. in ceremonies at the City Hall Rotunda.
