COURSE DESCRIPTIONS


PE 576 A, B, C – Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced Argentine Tango
This course covers the social, improvisational form of Argentine tango. Students learn essential elements of the movement vocabulary and how to arrange these in an infinite number of ways with different partners. Emphasis is on leading and following, interpreting the music, developing clean lines with the legs and feet, and other aspects of partnering. Practical work on the dance is rooted in an overview of its history and its manifestations in film, visual art and the printed word. Students explore tango as a dance, a culture, a way of life.


PE 578 – Argentine Tango Choreography & Performance
Performance-oriented course: development, critique and rehearsal of tango sequences for public performance informed by analysis of videotaped footage of professional tango choreography.
